Great Eastern Run - team result
Following much confusion, the Great Eastern Run people have confirmed that C&C were second in the men's team standings, which is a great result in such a high-profile race. Well done Ben, Geoff, Chris P and Joad.

Ely New Year's Eve 10K
Update to my earlier message - the NYE 10K is now FULL. Sorry!
•
Richmond Pics
Helen's pics from the weekend in Richmond are now up in the gallery, and I've added some too.
•
The Stickler
More evidence of C&C members' oft-questioned ability to run on the hills - news from deepest Dorset, where Simon B conquered The Stickler's three big climbs to finish in the top ten percent.
•
Sunday League
More good XC form for Diana and Sue at Broxbourne, once again finishing well up the field in our Sunday League fixture.
•
Istanbul Marathon
Another sub-3 for Joad in today's largely-submerged Istanbul Marathon, earning him 34th place, and second Vet 40-44. Great going, Joad!
•
Fenland 10
The results from the Fenland 10 have been posted. Top C&C was Alessandro in tenth place in a very quick 59:29, and top female was Caroline in ninth, running 1:10:23. Great running by everyone, and good to see so many high placings - we're looking pretty strong at the moment!
This was also race 6 in the C&C Grand Prix, and Giacomo has made a move into second place behind Karin. Simon B's amazing sequence of 80 percent-plus WAVA ratings, consistently the best in the club, see him top the age/gender graded table.

Budapest Oct 2008
I have put a few of my photos in the gallery. Six of us (including John, a friend of mine) took part in the relay marathon on 5 October. We had 2 x 3-person teams.

Chesterton Training - complaints
Please read the following message from Neil if you train at Chesterton on Mondays or Thursdays.
Steve Walker, the Centre Manager at Chesterton has made a number of complaints which we need to take very seriously. He knows the club, we get on well and I've discussed the issues with him. He is understanding about our use of the Sports Hall but he is not willing to stand for the behaviour some club members have engaged in. This year the complaint refers to behaviour on Mondays but last year there were some complaints about Thursdays and so we need to take on the rules below for Thursday usage too please. Specifically (1) we must be polite to staff and other users and not use the foyer as an extended playground (2) we must not bring mud into the Sports Centre. This is really important. Chesterton is a very high quality facility and we have no alternative location.
I've proposed the following solution to Steve and it is acceptable to him:
1. On Mondays, we will move our reception table to the bottom of the slope at the far end of the swimming pool
2. ALL our members, on Mondays and Thursdays, come through the new security gate and assemble at the same place - the bottom of the slope at the far end of the swimming pool so that we don't get in the way of other Centre users
3. We use the door into the Sports Hall which is located at that end (not the one by the foyer)
4. We use the changing rooms at the same end
5. Stretching takes place in the Sports Hall or the changing rooms (subject to polite behaviour) but THERE MUST BE NO STRETCHING, WARMING UP OR WARMING DOWN IN THE FOYER OR CORRIDORS.
6. MUDDY SHOES MUST BE REMOVED.
Please ensure these rules are adhered to. We cannot afford to jeopardise our use of the facility nor the club's good name.
Neil

Richmond Castle 10K
Results are up from the excellent, hilly Richmond Castle 10K. Ten of us travelled up to enjoy Helen and Ian's excellent hospitality at their B&B, along with a spot of challenging racing. Photos should appear here soon.
•
Abingdon Marathon
Congratulations Dave Y on his successful sub-3:30 attempt at the Abingdon Marathon. Much deserved after a lot of hard training and setbacks. Congratulations too to Ultra Katie, who registered another quick long-distance time, finishing in 3:38.

C&C Christmas Party 2008
Advance notice that this year's Christmas party will be at Jesus College on Saturday 13th December, cost £11, including the usual excellent buffet. Put it in your diaries now! If you're interested, and you should be because it's always a cracking do, see Chris Brown or e-mail him at c.brown@jesus.cam.ac.uk.
We should also be having the draw for the C&C club places for the London Marathon at the party (attendance not compulsory). If you were rejected in the ballot and haven't yet come to your senses, mention it to Glyn before the night.

Great Eastern Run
Having weeded out some confusing published results with Neil's help, results from the Great Eastern Run at Peterborough are now up, with plenty of excellent performances. Ben and Geoff produced the highlights, finishing 22nd and 23rd in a big field, both in the low 1:15s. Once one small detail is ironed out, it looks like we will be either second or third team too, which is a fine achievement. Great going, everyone.

Weekend Results 12th October
It may have felt like summer at last, but the cross-country season got under way on Sunday, with a contingent of C&C runners heading up to the first of the Ryston Runners Cross-Country Series. Andrew H was our one-man squad at the Tiptree 10, running a fine PB in 1:12.

Dovedale Dash - update
The Dovedale Dash is now only 3 weeks away - plenty of time for the mud to get soggier and the river colder!
There are currently 2 places left, both in male dorms. If you'd like to come along and haven't yet told me, please let me know asap - rachel.roberts@yahoo.co.uk.
For those of you who have already paid for the weekend, there's some good news! You will get a refund of the princely sum of £1.00 per night, because the price the hostel is actually going to charge us is £1.00 less than the price originally quoted. To keep things simple, I am intending to issue this refund in cash over the Dovedale weekend. However, if this doesn't suit you, or you have any queries, please let me know.
Finally, we need to sort out transport arrangements. I will email everyone who has signed up with details of who is going and for how long. In the meantime, please can you have a think about whether you are prepared to give other people a lift or if you will need a lift yourself. Again, any queries, please let me know.
Thanks,
Rachel

Budapest Marathon Relay
The news we've been waiting for from the weekend - Rachel's Rapid Racers trounced Mandy's Marvels in the Budapest Marathon Relay by just over two minutes. Sounds like a very good weekend was had.
•
Fiona and Alex
Brilliant news from Fiona and Alex - they got married at the weekend! Congratulations to you both, from everyone at the club.
•
London to Brighton
News filtering in from the London to Brighton. Kim finished in 11 hours and 25 minutes, on what was a terrible day for any long run, never mind a 56-mile trail run. Congratulations Kim!
Update: Kim was equal 20th overall, out of about 86 finishers (never mind those who didn't make it) and equal third-placed female. A truly superb performance.
•
Cologne Marathon
With the Autumn marathon season well under way, news in from Cologne, where Cole pipped Ish, and both clocked around 3:12, while Amy ran a cracking 3:29. Well done, chaps - hope you enjoyed the Kölsch afterwards.
•
10K Action
Two sets of local 10K race results for you. Starting with the Standalone 10K at Letchworth, where Geoff clocked an outstanding 35:18 to finish seventh in a high-class field, followed closely by Andrew P in 28th with 37:45. Very impressive!
Just over the Gogs, Giacomo led our challenge in the Abington 10K, finishing eighth in 38:09.

Frostbite League - St Neots
Well, that was probably the nastiest, wettest day we could possibly have asked for, but my fears of having about three C&C runners at St Neots were groundless, even with all the other racing on today. Fourteen seniors and four juniors risked exposure and drowning in mud (and a couple of unexpected water jumps) to put in high-calibre team performances. The juniors placed highly with Adam Tapley in fourth place and George Schwiening first girl and sixth overall, and finished seventh team. The seniors took seven of the top fifty places, including Will M's second place and Ben B's tenth, and also finished seventh. Another junior and another senior female would have been the icing on the cake and gained us a few places, but getting anyone out at all was impressive - well done all. For the first time I can remember, the results on the day were cancelled due to bad weather! Thanks to the Riverside and Frostbite teams for sterling work in impossible conditions, and to the several C&C Frostbite debutants: it's not usually that bad!

Ultra News
Late results now in from the JW Ultra last weekend, a 30-mile trail race from Stratford-upon-Avon to Bournville in Birmingham - great going Ultra Katie and Ultra Simon.
More ultra news - if things are still on track, good luck Kim in the London to Brighton tomorrow.

Cambs 5 Mile County Championship
One item of news worthy of celebrating which had gone un-noticed - Noel Carroll won the Cambs County Championship at the Thorney 5 in August. Well done Noel!
