Break ins at the track
A number of cars have been broken into at the track in the last couple of weeks. The University is aware of it and we'll be discussing options to try to counteract it. Please avoid leaving any valuables in view and keep an eye out for any suspicious circumstances. Please report anything suspicious to the University staff member on duty at the track.

Frostbite – the penultimate race (2/2/14)
Well, today we had amazing turn outs for both the junior and senior races. What is most interesting is only having 5 junior runners (3 females and 2 males or in other words a complete team!). They scored a total of 166 points, putting us in 5th place today but remaining second overall. Diana, as usual, helped by being the first girl. The seniors also turned up the heat with a total of 21 runners (6 females and 15 males) scoring a total of 525 points and coming second today behind NVH. It was great to see a total of 4 C & C runners in the top 20, 1st, 3rd, 9th, and 11th respectively, along with Carla Brown in 40th place and I believe first lady. We're still in third overall position with one race left on Sunday 2nd March at Hinchingbrook Park. I would like to say a huge thank you to all C & C runners who ran to today, you should be proud of yourselves because without you, we wouldn't hold the current overall positions. I have to nominate the junior and senior male and female runners of the season, which will be announced at the final 2013 - 14 meeting. See you on Sunday 2nd March and once again, well done!

GOOD GYM - we need runners like you
Hello everyone,
***UPDATE -we're doing really well for runners. We need more Founder Members (runners and non-runners) - people who are keen to get this project off the ground. If you know anyone who would be interested please let them know. Our proposal page is here: goodgym.org/proposals/cambridge
*********************************************
Good Gym is looking to set up a new group in Cambridge, but we need runners like you to register to get it off the ground.
If you haven't heard of Good Gym before, this is the description off the website:
"GoodGym helps you get fit by doing good: we'll connect you with physical tasks that benefit your community and keep you fit. Run in a pack to work on a community project, do one off missions to help vulnerable people or commit to visiting an isolated older person. You'll get the help of a qualified trainer and support to achieve your goals."
There is more information on the website www.goodgym.org where you can register your interest. Once we have enough people registered to set up as a new Cambridge group, we can start running to do good! A nice way of fitting in an extra run into your weekly training.
There have been a few issues with the website so if you get an error message, please keep trying. Hopefully we'll be able to get a group together quite quickly.
If you have any other questions please email me tibahooz@yahoo.co.uk.
Thanks
Katie

Fred Hughes 10
News of the Fred Hughes 10 in St Albans, and it's a mightily speedy 10-mile PB for Alex Eggeman in 58:06. Crikey!

Folksworth 15
Often a stiff post-Christmas tester of marathon shape, the Folksworth 15 has three sharp hills, multiplied by two laps, each of which tries to draw the last of your stamina and leave you in a crying, broken heap below its summit. No such problems for our sixsome, whether Londoning or just masochistic, and a half-dozen handy times were gained. Special mentions to Dave Yeneralski (1:47) and Rich Lyle (1:58) for brand-new PBs, hard luck Tim Long on just missing the bacon-butty cut-off (2:03), and well done Paul Jones (2:00), Andrew Unsworth (2:17) and Mandy Lasseter (2:23). You were awesomely strong and will reap the rewards this spring.

Club ballot for 2015 London Marathon
As many of you are aware, the club receives some entries to the London Marathon, based on the number of club members registered with England Athletics. These entries are then distributed to club members via a ballot.
The General and Endurance Running Committees have discussed and agreed upon the criteria to be included within the club ballot for the 2015 London Marathon. You must fulfil all four of the following criteria to be eligible for the club ballot:
1. Be a paid-up C&C member
2. Have entered into, and been rejected from, the main London Marathon ballot as a C&C athlete.
3. Taken part in at least one C&C club race in the 2013/14 season.
4. Volunteered for at least once for C&C in the 2013/14 season.
The 2013/14 season runs from 1 October 2013 - 30 September 2014.
Club races include any of the Essex XC, Frostbite or Kevin Henry League races, the County, Regional or National XC Championships, Regional or National Road Relays, Regional or National XC Relays, Hereward Relay, Round Norfolk Relay or any of the T&F League Meets.
The fourth criterion has been included to encourage a greater level of volunteering in the club. We need your help. Without it we cannot continue to provide the same level of high quality training and competition as the Club grows ever larger - as of early Jan we have 938 members and a further 93 juniors on the waiting list.
Volunteering includes helping out at any of the Club races mentioned above or supporting the day-to-day running of the Club, for example by coaching or assisting at training. We particularly need support for junior training on a Monday evening. There are many opportunities to volunteer - you could for example marshal at a club supported event such as the Cambourne 10k, Cambridge Half Marathon, our Kevin Henry league race or one of the home T&F meets. Please get in touch with any of the committee members if you would like to volunteer.
We hope that all endurance runners will understand and support the motivations for the new criteria, but if you have any concerns, feel free to speak to any of the committee members.
By the way, even if you don’t want to enter the London Marathon ballot, we’d still love you to volunteer!

Car window smashed in car park at the track tonight
One of my ladies had her car window smashed this evening while it was parked in the front car park. Did anyone on the track notice anything or know anything about it? Nothing was taken. just the back window smashed. Not nice to come back to after a challenging session.
Thanks,
Becky

Mezza della Befana
Going back to my home town Verona does not mean having a rest from running any more: there is always a tempting half marathon nearby. In September it was the Bologna half marathon, this time it was the Mezza della Befana in Crevalcore, a small town near Bologna. Doing it after a week of eating a lot of pandoro cake was a bit challenging, but it was a nice flat course and a very sunny day. The race pack and prizes are quite interesting: we now have a big supply of polenta, mosquito repellents and clothes whitener! And David got 2 bottles of local wine as he arrived second in his age category! Giulietta&Romeo Half Marathon is waiting for us in February.

New Year's Results
A very late mention for what is many people's highlight of the New Year festivities, Ely Runners' 10K race at Little Downham. No fewer that 45 C&C runners managed to get an entry in the few microseconds before it sold out, and as ever, we had some belting performances, none better than the third place which Tom Stevens picked up in a very sharp 34:12. There was a very handy eighth place for Carrie Bedingfield-Hall too. Well done all. For full results, and for news from the five-miler at St Neots and the wonderful Wymondham 10K on New Year's Day, or to work out how many of us managed two parkruns in a single day, follow the links below. By the way - that is NOT a hill.

Frostbite league – race number 4
It was another good turn out for the fourth Frostbite meeting in March (so thank you and well done to all those who either ran or supported). Today was one of those days where the name Frostbite truely lived up to its name! We had a total of 9 juniors (3 boys/6 girls) scoring a total of 119 points. This left the juniors in second position today so overall we are still second (55 points) behind Hunts AC in first position (60 points) and in third position are Riverside Runners (53 points). The seniors, 27 in total (16 male/11 female) came 12th overall today scoring more than 1000 points (full total to follow). This now therefore places us in 3rd overall with 50 points behind Hunts AC in second (58 points) and NVH in first (63 points).
The next meeting is on Sunday 2nd February in Bourne, Lincolnshire and I hope to see a very good turn out at this meeting so we can keep the pressure up.
