New Spring Old Spring
Some of us have arranged to meet for a drink and catch up at the Old Spring on Chesterton Road. Knowing what busy athletes we are we've planned a bit ahead and have arranged the eve of Saturday 23rd February. The more the merrier to welcome in the Spring.

Southern Road Relays 24 March
The South of England Road Relays take place on Sunday 24 March (men's race at 12 noon and women's 1pm) at Stantonbury, Milton Keynes this year.
The men's race has 12 stages, alternating between 8K and 5K, while the women's race is over 6 legs of 5K. Each leg starts at the track at Stantonbury and then follows a course mostly on tarmac paths around the nearby Linford Wood. More details of the event and course can be found at http://mcs.open.ac.uk/mkac/scaaa12.htm.
The event is a highlight of the club road running calendar and a chance to rub shoulders with some of the best in the country. Those of us who did it last year really enjoyed it. The club will pay your entry.
Let me know if you are interested in taking part.

Folksworth 15 OFF
Not surprisingly - 'read more' for details.
Dear Runner
Due to the heavy downpour of snow today and the forecast for more still to come, the organising committee of Folksworth 15 have regrettably made a decision that the race on Sunday 20th January WILL NOT go ahead.
It will be postponed until further notice, depending whether an alternative date can be found for it to be rearranged. We will keep you posted as soon as we know.
We are as disappointed as I know all participants will be that the race cannot be run, but we hope you understand that the decision has been made in order to ensure the safety of all runners, marshals and supporters.
Kind regards
Claire Piercy
Folksworth 15 Race Secretary

Club Night Tuesday
This Tuesday (22nd) the clubhouse will be open after training for Club Night, the first of 2013! From 7.30-9.30 we are open for drinks, hot, cold, soft and hard. Catch up on the current wave of club events, chat, training and merrymaking opportunities. If you are new or have'nt looked in before you are particularly welcome; look in for a quick 'nosey' even if you just have a half hour.
Club Nights are 4th Tuesday of the month, and the next two are Feb 26th and March 26th (...Tuesday with a 't' in it?Is that, like, really memorable?). It is your club, make sure you use it to the max! Hope to see as many of us there as possible, it has been a great year so far. We laugh in the face of 'weather'.

Frostbite League - March AC
Results are in from the March leg of the Frostbite League, and although it was a bit of a shocker for us, there were some good individual results to pick out. Most notable was an absolutely stunning overall win from Duncan Coombs, who took seventeen seconds out of his nearest rival on the rather nice multi-terrain fenland course. We are not worthy, Duncan (well, I'm not anyway). The legendary John Oakes was as reliable and quick as ever, taking sixteenth place for us, with Stewart Bond and Andrew Howard next C&Cs in, pursued by a huge pack of blue-and-whites in the 33-minute bracket - Charlie Ritchie, Paul Rudin and Martyn Brearley scored our other race points. Our outstanding female was the ever-speedier Stacy Wheat, who placed fourth in the women's rankings, with Clare Garvey and Alex Geoghegan scoring well for us too. Decent runs elsewhere, and some excellent debuts - check out the full results for details.
The team results were disappointing. Our seniors finished sixth on the day in a tight race for the higher placings, and we now have a four-point deficit in the table behind Hunts AC and trail NVH on, er, goal difference. Our outstanding Juniors of last season (and the County XC) failed to show.

Monday Night 9 min/mile plus Group - SESSION CANCELLED
Due to the snow and potentially icy conditions, this evening's training session has been cancelled.
•
Essex League
Chingford Plain and Epping Forest made for a very muddy finish to this our first season. Results and the race report can be found here.
The overall individual and team standings can be found here. We had an emphatic win by one junior, another lost out to third on count back and two close thirds. Our senior men did well to finish 11th overall out of 25 clubs with at least half of our regular scorers being vets. Relatively newcomers, Charlie Ritchie and Ben Chamberlain should be congratulated on starting and finishing all five races. Well done guys.
Hope you can join us next season.

Cambridgeshire Cross-Country Pics
Congratulations to our new county champions Beth Wilson (FU11), Alice Newcombe (FU15), Claire Wilson (FU17), Kieran Wood (MU17), Mike Salt (MV40), Katie Sherwood (FV35), George Schwiening (FU20), Helen Grant (FV45) and Margaret Phillips (FV55). Well done too to our quickest seniors, Sullivan Smith (fourth overall) and Ellen Leggate (second), and to everyone else frankly! Another cracking County Champs, and a superb team spirit. Take a look at the full results for details.
Carmel's pics are now up in the gallery.

Ely New Year's Eve 10K
The Ely New Year's Eve 10K, run across the wide-open Fens of Little Downham, is arguably the highlight of the C&C racing year (for those quick enough to bag an entry), and our squad of 33 gave it the full go. With nowhere to hide from the nasty weather, Kye Liddle's fourth place in 34:15 was particularly impressive, and Graham Anderson's 36-dead for 13th was pretty tasty too. Also breaking 40 minutes were speedsters John Ferguson, Ben Jones, John Oakes, Andrew Shields and David Barber. In the female race, the brilliant Caz Pritchard was our star turn, with sixth place in 41:03, and Ultra Katie Samuelson's sprinted to eleventh, just ahead of Mary Twitchett. We had no fewer than four category wins - congratulations to John Oakes, Caz Pritchard, Mary Twitchett and Glyn Smith. Also on the podium, well done Karin Jordansen and Margaret Phillips.
There were dozens of other fine runs, so check out the full results. Legendary!

Wymondham New Year's Day 10K
Never mind your Olympians of 2012, it takes a special type of athlete to get up early on New Year's Day 2013 to tackle the Wymondham 10K. Mind you, it's a lovely race and well worth the effort. The half-dozen C&C early-to-bedders were led in by the phenomenal Jonathan Escalante-Phillips, fifth finisher in 35:23. David Barber and Silvia Chiappa were taking on the Ely/Wymondham New Year Double, and somehow took time off their Fenland results, whilst Dave Yeneralski (reliably witnessed to have done the full NYE experience) produced a superb first-ever sub-42. And Carmel and I kicked off 2013 nicely too, exceeding expectations. Happy New Year, all.

Waterside 5
Mike Salt rounded off 2012 with another podium placing at the literally-named Waterside 5 on the shores of Grafham Water. Mike's 27:41 for the five-miler was excellently backed up by good runs from Ben Chamberlain (45th) and Gerald Meah (80th). Nice one, team.
