Sunday League XC - Cheshunt
Our cross-country league season started at Cheshunt on Sunday, but as ever we struggled for numbers. So a particular 'well done' to Diana Braverman, second-quickest F55.
•
Black Park parkrun
I think Matthew Applegate's huge PB at parkrun down Slough way is well worth a big mention - a phenomenal 18:47, good enough for third place overall. See pic.
•
Great South Run
Just the one C&C this year at the Great South Run - well done Chris Hurcomb, running 1:28.
•
Cambridge parkrun
Another C&C win at parkrun, and it's Carla Brown again! Well done, Carla.
•
Cancer Research 10K
They picked a beautiful course round the greens and historic city centre for the Cambridge event in the Cancer Research 10K series, and a beautiful day too. Clearly enjoying it were Noel Carroll (pictured running 33:59) and Nick Beer, who finished second and third respectively out of a field of over 2000. David Harrison was up at the sharp end too, running 36:33 for tenth place. Very impressive, guys. Assuming full results don't materialise, if you were one of the other C&Cs there, let me know and I'll update (or have a go yourself).
•
Amsterdam Marathon
Graham Anderson flew the C&C colours at the Amsterdam Marathon last weekend and put in a superb performance dipping under 3 hours and finishing 380th in a time of 2:59:23. Many congratulations to Graham, I know he was gunning for sub-3 hours and he did it! Awesome running. Not forgetting Christian Nielsen too, who also put in a stunning run, finishing 673rd in a time of 3:09:11.
•
Ampthill Trophy Cross-Country
Last winter's caked mud has been chipped off the spikes, and the cross-country season's well under way. At the Ampthill Trophy meeting, Mike Salt was quickest C&C in the senior race, finishing fifth, and first V35. Good runs too by fellow cross-country stars Stephen Penny, Gerald Meah and Diana Braverman. Diana's run earned her another category victory - congratulations Diana.
Following our Frostbite win, our juniors are a force to be reckoned with, and the Under 13 race was a C&C one-two, courtesy of Finn Barnes and Joseph Willmott. Superb stuff, chaps.
•
Abingdon Marathon
We had an impressive turnout at Abingdon on Sunday, what a good day for C&C it was too, in excellent long-distance conditions. Hats of first of all to Charlie Wartnaby, who knocked a minute and a half off his PB to finish in 2:43:09, the best time recorded for C&C this year. Absolutely stunning. Three cheers too to Katie Samuelson (3:37) and to Dave Mail (pictured) and Simon Redfern (3:57 each). Congratulations to all.
•
Richmond Castle 10K
C&C may have lost Ian and Helen McKay to beautiful Swaledale and the B&B, but we've gained the ideal base for an annual weekend of running and general high living. The Richmond Castle 10K has four sharp hills (I remember each vividly), and first C&C over them this year was Glyn Smith (fourth V60), with Alex Downie not far behind. Fiona Downie was our first female, and fifth in category, whilst it was a near-tie yet again for Mandy Lasseter and Tim Long. Well done all - looking forward to hearing about it.
•
River Cam Run 5
The second 2010 running of the River Cam Run attracted an increased field despite the rival attractions just up-river, and it featured several C&Cs (not counting Ben and his organising team). Giacomo Capetti is right back in top form after injury and he took an excellent third place. Close behind were John Bowstead in fifth and Alan Pritchard in sixth, with Giulio Cinque winning the V50 category - congrats, Giulio. In the women's field, the other half of Team Pritchard finished second - superb stuff again, Caz. Rounding off the prize news, Seth Kennard was first under 16 - well done Seth. Oh, and not surprisingly, we took the team prize too.
•
Wix 5
There was stiff competition for John Oakes at the Wix 5 (and Essex championship) down Harwich way, but he did us proud with 28:01 for fourth V50 another 89%+ WAVA grading. Nice one, John - still waiting with bated breath for the 90%!
•
Felixstowe Half
The Great Eastern wasn't East enough for Chris Brown, who recorded a solid 1:39 at the Felixstowe Half.
•
Great Eastern Run
The Perkins Great Eastern Run has to be the biggest race in our region, with 3000+ runners and many seriously quick athletes from across the UK and overseas, so particular congratulations to Ben Baldelli and John Oakes for representing C&C so well at the sharp end. Ben's 1:12:34 (chip) was good enough for 20th place as well as third M40. John ran 1:16:37 for a big PB and second place in the M50s, and 33rd place overall. Simon Brightwell's in good nick too, clocking 1:25:57 for 146th. Good racing too from Mike DiFranco (1:44), Kristoffer Semple (1:45), Rachel Roberts (1:49) and Deb Carter (2:10). Finally, well run Katy Baker-Davis, sub-20 and 17th female in the 4km event.
As you may know, two runners died after the event, and both were members of local running clubs. Our deepest condolences to their families and friends, and to all our friends at Werrington Joggers and Bushfield Joggers.

Cross Country events
There are forthcoming events that I believe should be mentioned. The first, which is next Sunday 17th October is the Ampthill Trophy. There are junior (9 - 16 years) and senior races, starting at 10:15 and 11am. I am sorry for late notice of this one so it's better to enter online through www.runnersworld.co.uk and full details can be found on www.ampthilltrophy.co.uk The second is the National Cross Country Relays, at Berry Hill Park Mansfield on Saturday 6th November. If anyone is interested in entering (C & C will cover the team entries for this event), then please can you let me know by Wednesday 13th October because the closing date is Friday 15th October. Complete details can be found on the relay section of this website - www.englishcrosscountry.co.uk

River Cam Run 5 October 17th 9.30a.m.
Still time to enter this scenic 5 mile race near the river. www.welcomeevents.co.uk
•
C & C closed XC race
The first of the C & C closed XC junior, 2 miles and senior races, 6 miles approx will take place at the Gogs on Saturday 16th October. The junior race starts at 9:30 and the senior race at starts 10:30. There is plenty of car parking but unfortunately no toilets or water/food so you must bring your own. We will be sharing the area with members of the public, who will probably have young children and/or dogs, so please be considerate to them. If you have any questions or wish to seek further clarification, please feel free to e-mail me.

Abington 10K
News from just down the Haverhill Road, and the Abington 10K - it's a win for Ben Baldelli, third (plus first M50) for John Oakes and seventh (third M40) for Giacomo Capetti. Dominant!

Frostbite St Neots - Results
Full results are now up from the St Neots Frostbite. Top senior C&C performers were Mike Salt (second place) and George Schwiening (third female on her senior debut), and also in the top few were Noel Carroll (sixth), John Uff (15th) and John Bowstead (25th). However, despite the quality, we were low on quantity again, especially the female squad which scraped the minimum three runners, so a particular well done to everyone who ran.
It was a magnificent day for the junior squad. Claire Wilson was first girl, with Charlotte Murphy fourth and Lauren Murphy 28th, while amongst the boys, Adam Tapley just edged out Thomas Heylen for fourth place and fastest C&C. James Tapley was close behind in seventh. Congratulations to all on a stunning victory.

Frostbite Update
News in from Adam at St Neots: C&C Seniors second place, C&C juniors a superb first place (for the first time, I believe). Full details to follow. Well done all, especially the junior team.

Parkrun Again
One maiden victory at parkrun is followed by another - well done Graham Anderson this week, edging out David Harrison.
