Ely New Year's Eve 10K
Twenty-eight C&C runners made the Ely New Year's Eve 10K their last run of 2007, and a whole heap of fine results were the result. Highlight of the day was Glyn's first place in the MV60 category (again!), confirming a superb comeback from surgery as recently as September. Also top-two in their categories were Jalanie and Karin. Jalanie, another strong returnee from the injury list, was also first C&C female finisher. First C&C male was John F, who just held off Andrew A to finish in 38:16. Too many C&C stories to report here - a very good day, and we even provided the celebrity prize giver, Helen. As ever, brilliant organisation by our friends at Ely Runners - thanks to them. Carmel's pictures are now online.

Buntingford Year End 10
Results are now in from the Royston Runners-organised Buntingford 10, where Phil S led the three C&C finishers home.

Training Schedule - January-April 2008
Neil's Tuesday night training schedule in now up at the training page. No training on New Year's Day as the track is closed (if I'm wrong, let me know a.s.a.p!). Pub night will presumably be postponed until the 8th.

C&C Boxing Day Race results
The C&C Boxing Day Race results are now up (thanks, Noel). This year's race was a clean sweep for the Clarke family, with Will and Rosie taking male and female honours. Will's time of 19:32 for the four-mile course was the quickest for a quarter of a century. Much fun to be had scanning the list working out who had too much Christmas Pud...

C&C Boxing Day race
If you've eaten/drunk yourself into a coma on Christmas Day, what better way to recover than the annual C&C Boxing Day race? Starting at Newnham Green, out to Trumpington War Memorial, then back again. The start is at 11am - just turn up and run (it starts near the Fen Causeway/Barton Road roundabout), and bring the relatives too - they will be particularly susceptible to the challenge after a drink or two.

Cross Country News
Last weekend was road-free, so plenty of cross-country spikes were dusted off. Results in from the Ryston series and the Sunday League at Southgate.
•
Bushfield Frostbite 2
The second Bushfield Frostbite proved a bit less of a disaster than the first, but only just. The senior team finished ninth, and the juniors could only muster two runners (but two good 'uns - great going John and James) and came eighth. The seniors' top finishers were John F (reliable as ever) and Jalanie, and numerous other fine performances were turned in, but again, the turnout was way short of competitive. Well done everyone who made the trip.

Bedford Half
First news of the weekend is in, from the Bedford Half. Adam and Meinou were quickest C&C, well done everyone.

Frostbite League this Sunday - Bushfield
Glyn has suggested a later meet for this month's Frostbite at Bushfield on Sunday - those wishing to share lifts should meet at the track at 9-30.
As ever, could you please, please try to turn out for this one - your club needs you! Last month's worst-ever 11th place shows that we aren't owed a high position because we're a big club. It's a very competitive league and we need both quality and quantity. What's more, it's actually great fun too! 11am start for seniors, 10-15am for juniors, just turn up in your C&C vest and run, no entry fee.

Turing Trail Relay, 16th March
It will soon be time for Glyn to put in the entries for this year's Turing Trail Relay, which runs from Ely to Cambridge and back in six stages. Glyn needs to know how many teams to enter, so please let him, me or any reliable person know very soon if you're hoping to run.
In addition, I've put up a sign-up sheet feature (trial basis, link on the left) where you can express your availability for this event (and others).

Christmas Party - urgent!
It's now getting urgent. If you want to go to the Christmas do at Jesus College and haven't already told Chris Brown, please do so very, very soon, in person or on c.brown@jesus.cam.ac.uk. Numbers need to be confirmed imminently. Even if you can't get the cash to Chris yet, just let him know you're definitely coming, please. Today would be good.
It's on Wednesday 19 Dec from 7-30pm (some leaflets say the wrong date), £11.00 per person, cash/cheque (payable to Jesus College) to Chris.

Norwich Half Marathon
Final (perhaps) results of the day are now in from Norwich, where Tim, Phil and Mike braved what Tim describes as "appalling conditions ... just about the worst I have run in". The City of Norwich people moved the race this year from an always-sweltering June date. I think there's a Law to describe that.
•
Luton Marathon
Impressive marathoning by Katie at Luton, running 3:32:30 on a tough course on a shocking day. Fantastic stuff. But is this really a good way to prepare for next week's fifty-miler?
•
Nene Valley 10
The Nene Valley 10 was held on a wet, blustery Sunday morning in Peterborough. Andy's fine run of PBs continued - this time he lowered his last 10 mile PB by over 3 mins! What IS in his drinking water? Carol also braved the conditions - photos to follow.

Milano Marathon update
It does really look like I've been the only finisher! As expected, in Milan the C&C runners were myself, Giacomo, Giulio and Joad. Giulio had injured himself on the knee a few weeks ago and didn't even start. Giacomo started and was running with me until the 20th km, at a very good pace (running for a 2h43'PB). Unfortunately he had to retire because of a serious hip injury during the race. No news about Joad, sorry: I only spotted him at the start and he said his legs were still a little tight from Berlin. {update: Joad's result has appeared - another sub-3, 2:55:58 - not bad with tight legs! - Andy}
As for myself, thanks but it wasn't really what I expected. When I was left by Giacomo my mind simply blew up and I started to go slower and slower. Never mind, I'll see you in London'08 for a good one!

Milano Marathon
Results are in from Milan, and a 2:52:12 from Pietro, recently departed but still proudly C&C. That's the quickest C&C marathon of 2007. Well done, Pietro - was it up to hopes and expectations? No sign of the other C&C likely runners - if anyone has any news, please post an update or get in touch.
