Rhayader Round the Lakes 20
Saturday 21st March 2009
Dave Mail
After last year's wind & rain (the day before the Turing Trail relay) what a glorious day in Wales yesterday! Ran the whole way with a huge smile on my face - it's amazing I didn't stop to admire the stupendously beautiful scenery; going up the 3 miles hill near the beginning was a doddle!
Training has been awful the last year because of work (see my race results for Bury Nearly 10 & last week's Turing Trail) so where did this result come from?!!
Hard 1st 10 miles (including the 3 miles hill) in 90 minutes (same as last year) but the easier 2nd half in 82 1/2. Only the 2/3rd mile hill at 18 1/2 miles (those who know the Bury 10/20 know what I mean) slowed me down. A PB by a minute, but I was wearing lightweight racing shoes and the weather was nice. Also, the 3 weeks of hill running I've done recently during lunchtimes at work were obviously worth the effort. Diet & proper training work! Thanks to Neil, Alan & James.
Katie wasn't far behind.
Now for the Oakley 20 in 2 weeks!
