Kevin Henry 5K League - Ely Runners
Thursday 19th May 2016
RichHL

We were up in the Fens at Witchford on Thursday for the second of this year’s Kevin Henry 5k League races, this one hosted by our friends at Ely Runners. We had 56 men and 24 women this time round. Those 80 runners had a few supporters which included the legend that is Alan Baldock, Ian Richardson, Karen Richardson and our scorers Bernie Shannon and Sarah Wightman. Sarah also provided the cakes and flapjack that we enjoyed after the race.

Tom Vickery (CTC) was first over the line. He was followed home by our own Sullivan Smith and Alan Darby (Ely). Sullivan was backed up in a strong team performance from Paul Aste (5th), Alex Eggeman (8th), Jonathan Escalante-Phillips (9th), Matt Slater (11th) and Alan Pritchard (13th). George Schwiening won the woman’s race and was 20th overall. Becca Frake was 5th in the women’s race, Mary Twitchett was 14th and Rosa Sampson 16th. Overall, C&C runners filled ten of the top twenty positions in the race.

Elliott Mepham smashed out a rather spectacular 18:53 giving him a huge PB and an even more huge smile on his face when he stopped feeling ill. I heard reports of a post-race chunder in the field from another runner but I’ll spare him his blushes here. It was a pleasure to see the commitment of so many C&C runners and all that training coming to fruition in your results.

The next race is by the Rowley Mile in Newmarket at 7:30pm on 9 June. See you there!
