Sheringham parkrun
Saturday 13th June 2015
Alex Downie
Norfolk's flat, isn't it? Well yes, it often is, but there ARE exceptions, and a clue with this one is that it starts at UPPER Sheringham, which looks down, quite a long way down, on ordinary Sheringham. They seem pretty proud to tell you that it's the 6th toughest parkrun in the country..(wonder where the other 5 are?). So off we charged past loads of rhododendrons in full flower, steeply down, dodging lurking tree roots, until we levelled off for views of the coast and steam railway action at Weybourne station. So far, pretty scenic, but then we plunged back into the woods for the gruelling, dark and gloomy mile climb back to the finish. (It's a slightly longer course -at 3.23m- in summer, to avoid a field which accommodates transhumant cattle from the coastal lowlands.) Verdict: friendly ,fierce and fun.
