NiceTri Standard Duathlon
Sunday 21st July 2013
PaulB
Despite running triathlons and, more recently, aquathlons, today's event was NiceTri's first attempt at a duathlon. Since I swim like a brick, its the first chance I've had to compete in one of their events rather than act as a marshal. The event was very slick and well organised and I was certainly grateful for the cooler weather this morning. The race is a standard distance event (so 10k run, 40k bike and a cheeky 5k to finish).
The first run went well for me and I came in under a minute slower than my 10k PB, with the feeling of plenty of energy for the bike course. A slightly shorter than advertised bike route led to quicker time than expected but with a draining wind at times, I was certainly relieved to be able to get off the bike and back to running. The second run was tougher for me, with mashed legs and the temperature starting to rise, meaning I lost time and position.
I wasn't the only C&Cer at the event - huge congratulations to Tracey Patmore for coming in as second female in a stonking 2:21:57. Perhaps next year we will see more members trying a multi-sport event that doesn't ruin your hair-do?
