Frostbite League - Bourne
Sunday 3rd February 2013
David Barber
Bourne Woods Leics (nb not Bourn Wood Cambs!) proved a pleasant area with many familiar faces and friends from other clubs taking part in this the 5th event in the frostbite league. The course was run over a mixture of gravel and grass paths, this posing the dilemma of whether or not to wear spikes. Most opted not to wear them, making sections of the course extremely challenging -- those in xtalons fared rather better. The undulating course was a classical cross country test, including some steep uphill sections, merciful fast downhills, wind exposed fields and downright awful boggy terrain. The course saved the worst till near the end with a shocking couple of hundred shoe-sucking meters through the mire, sapping the last reserves from already tired legs.
A great first club performance from Javier, leading the men's team home. Outstanding effort from Georgina finishing as overall first lady with Chris very close behind. Charlie and Glyn excelled with impressive age graded performances considering the conditions. Christof, Ben and an ecstatic Richard completed the men's scoring team with Martyn on the heels of Richard, Glyn only seconds behind. Silvia scored second lady for the team in this her first team event for the club, closely followed by another excellent performance from Alex. Jen battled well and Beth gave a good performance in her first outing for the club.
