Crewe Deja Vu Marathon
Sunday 4th November 2012
Christof Schwiening
The athletics track at Crewe is fairly pretty, but it would have to be extraordinary to warrant looking at it from all angles 105 times - but, that is what I did. The Deja Vu track marathon was great fun and the organizers and competitors were very friendly. I ran for a good few km with the Sandbach Club Chair (and event organizer). He was very friendly and quite chatty despite the rather fast opening pace. My autolap feature didn't work on my watch and so I got my pacing all wrong and paid for it towards the latter stages of the marathon. It was surprisingly tough running so many laps - I got blisters and cuts on my feet that I have never had before. I think it was due to the identical foot strikes with no slopes or variations to shift the stresses. I suspect that is also why it was quite hard work. I think in a normal marathon variation helps more than I anticipated. But, I finished and that earned me what was perhaps the best race bag ever. There was so much stuff in their that carrying it post-marathon was a bit of a challenge. I would definitely recommend the event to beginners and pros alike. The organization and 'feel' of the event was perfect.
