Preston Guild Marathon

The Preston Guild celebrations take place only once every 20 years, so when I heard they were putting on a marathon as part of the events I knew I had to do it, even though it was the day after (and a very long drive from) the Beachy Head marathon! The organisation was superb, especially for a first-time race, the marshalling and support from both the officials and the public was brilliant, and course was pretty good for a road event, undulating enough to be interesting without being a killer. The weather however was horrendous - windy, wet and freezing cold.
After a slow start to work the Beachy Head stiffness out of my legs I managed to find some kind of rhythm and gradually got faster (it was that or get hypothermia!) to finish in a respectable time of 3:30:58. I just missed out on a top 10 ladies finish, but I bet the top 10 had an easier day on Saturday...
