St Ives Bay 10k

Winner: 35:30 M, 43:00 F.
Web: Hayle Runners Facebook page
Organised by Hayle Runners, this out-and-back event had us go 3 miles straight along the beach, which had fairly firm sand, but footprints went quite deep, so it was pretty energy-sapping. Then we had 2 miles of the Towans, which are paths through dunes. These were at least reasonably consolidated, only then to be cast into complete gloom by the prospect of the final ‘Dune of Doom,’ (not my words, that was how it was ‘marketed’)which seemed to be saying’Ha! You won’t be seeing the finish funnel any time soon, you poor deluded loon!’ Then it was back onto the beach for the final mile, which did indeed bear out that grim prophecy……. Brilliantly marshalled throughout, they claimed to have 80 helpers out, which must be some kind of a pb for a runner:marshal ratio. Many thanks, Hayle Runners, for an exhilarating and memorable event!
