Race 5 Kevin Henry Series - C&C at home!
The final race of the Kevin Henry Series is our home event on Thursday 4th September 2014. Please bear in mind an earlier start time of 7:00pm. The course has been officially measured (so will appear on your stats) and starts near the University Sports Centre on the West Site. We had to set it up before we were guaranteed the track would be finished, so it is just under a kilometre jog over there - so give yourself time. As we stand, we are 1 point behind Cambridge Triathlon Club, so a win for both the men and ladies will guarantee an overall win. This will also guarantee the ladies trophy and a tie for the men, so it will be worked out on count back - so we need as many as possible to turn out in the blue and white. The awards ceremony is in the club house afterwards and open until 10:30. So please turn out to see who the winners are and also the C&C runners of the series. The bar will be open and light bites available- please bring some cake if you can! Richard Luddington from Fit Again Sports Therapy is also coming along to give advice to any of those who want it. Thank you to all those who offered to volunteer. I have sent out the details to you all by email, so if you volunteered and haven't heard from me, apologies and please email me on chris@hirky.wanadoo.co.uk. I have also attached the course - it's a quick one ..... see you there!

C&C back on form ... KH Haverhill
64 C&C'ers turned up at Kedington for Haverhill's ever popular rolling 5k route. PB's galore and cracking times on a perfect evening. Great scoring by the men with a win by Sullivan (15:46), followed up with high placings from Jonathan (3rd), Makka (6th), great to see John back in the blue and white in 7th. The ladies were magnificent with a clean sweep of the scoring positions, led by George in 17:31, Carla breaking 18 for the first time in 2nd, followed by Claire and Carrie. With such strong scoring we took first in both the men and ladies competitions. Haverhill had 84 runners turn up for their home event, which pushed the CTC ladies to 3rd. So with one race to go - our race! - CTC lead on 42 points and us second on 41. Slamdown at Wilberforce Road! Also great to see so many of you at The Plough afterwards. Full results below

PBtastic in Haddington
Nine C&Cs and a Riversider ran the undulating Haddington Half Marathon course on Saturday. It was a day for PBs and near PBs and some spectacular wimping out and moaning about everything. (That bit was for me.) The course is challenging, beautiful and run over quiet back roads. It's like a turbocharged version of St Neots.
It likely that we'll have another trip to Haddington next year. With any luck, it will be a little less wet next time.

St Neots 10k
It was a great morning for C&C last Sunday as we took several individual and team prizes. Leading the way was Jonathan E-P who not only won the race, broke the course record and also had a PB, WOW! Dan Hurst came in 9th which meant C&C took the Male Team Prize.
The girls weren't going to be outdone with Lynn Roberts coming in 3rd lady overall and 1st FV in her age group, closely followed by Samantha Lewsey which meant we also won the Female Team Prize.
Another great performance by Margaret Phillips saw her also come over 1st FV in her age group.
Overall C&C made up 5% of the field and took 50% of the prizes which shows the strength we have and are developing in the club. All the winners are now equipped for winter training and you'll have no problems spotting them.

Lakeland 50/100
It was our annual trip up to Coniston for a couple of the hardest ultras in the UK calendar, Katie racing the 50 while I was back for another attempt at the 100. This year the 50 was also acting as the UK Ultra Trail Running Championship so Katie was up against the best of the best (cue Europe and the Top Gun music).
I'm in the middle of a full race blog, but in short I finished it in 37:53:31, in 127/306 place. Not the time I was hoping for but it was a finish - always the real objective - and in the top half too amazingly.
Katie had an amazing run, clocking sub-11 hours, a huge course PB, an overall top-50 finish and 10th lady! Wow!

Cross Country & Relay Fixtures 2014-15
An amended version of the xc fixture list has been posted on the official club website. The dates of the 5 Essex League races have now been added. Still to be confirmed is the date & venue for the County XC Champs. It's definitely the first weekend of 2015. A printable file will be added asap. Click here.
The SEAA Road Relays on the weekend of 20th/21st September has Women's & Men's Veterans events (40+). Feel to put together a team following the instructions on the event link. The club will pay for teams of first claim C&C members. We have some strong veteran runners. It would be great to see you out there. Click here.

Borrowdale Fell Race
Having banged on tediously about this at Kevin Henry recently I thought I should let you know how it went: in short, it was an epic experience, but I was utterly and predictably humbled by the local experts! But some useful hard lessons learned for next time...
