December 2013

Buntingford 10
Ice skates would have been good for the first twisty couple of miles here, with treacherous housing estate corners, but it got mostly better once we left Buntingford and AFAIK we all got round unscathed. The big news was Victoria's splendid win; Makka (sub-59 PB despite the ice!) and Dan also had a great runs, and I was glad to be back racing, getting a smart V40 trophy (as the faster V40s had podium prizes). I didn't see anyone else at the end, but do chip in with your comments and flag your results as 'PB' if appropriate.

Tom's California Dream Run
Late news of Tom Stevens's win in a rather hilly 20k trail race - this one comes highly recommended by Tom if you're in the San Francisco Bay Area at the right time - Tom's report is linked below. Always nice to beat the Americans - congrats Tom.

C&C Boxing Day Race
Results are now up, and it's another win for C&C old boy and olympian Will Clarke, with Will Mycroft impressively close behind to finish as first current C&C. First female was Diana Chalmers, heading a trio of speedy juniors. Proper news report (and corrections to the results/spellings) welcome! Thanks to Noel for providing the data.

English Cross Country Championships
The deadline for club paid entries for this event on Saturday 22nd February has been extended to Friday 27th December. Full details about this event which is being held at Wollaton Park, Nottingham can be found here. Last year this event was held in Sunderland. This year it's in The Midlands area. It's only held in this region once very three years. A great opportunity to watch the best in the country in action, including our up coming junior teams. With 2000 starters in the men's race and 700 in the women's there's always someone to race where ever you are in the field. The more the merrier.

The Cyprus International 4-day Running Challenge - November 2014
Are you interested in some winter sun, running and a beer? I have had a number of conversations about organising a trip to Cyprus to take part in the 'Cyprus Challenge' at the end of next year. The event consists of four days of running as follows:
Day 1: A 6k time trial on the flat.
Day 2: An 11k Mountain run.
Day 3: An undulating half marathon.
Day 4: The Paphos 10k.

The challenge is to complete all four events but the half marathon or 10k can be run as standalone events.

If you would be interested in this as a club tour please register your interest here, in the fixtures list or any other method of contacting me. Once I have some idea of numbers, I'll investigate flights, accommodation and costs.

Bedford Half
On a beautiful morning a select group from C&C completed the Bedford Half with its good share of hills to test any legs, first over the line for C&C was Shannon Burke at 1.33. Tim Long was in next with a seven year best at 1.44. I was next over with a leg sapping 1.50. Running her first half in several years was Mandy Lasseter with an impressive 1.54 and closely followed by Anne Schumann at 1.55.

Frostbite update
C & C had an excellent turn out for both the junior (14 in total (10 girls and 4 boys)) and senior races (26 in total (15 males and 11 females)) as well as everyone else who kindly assisted in both races. So thank you so much to you all. The junior score was 69 points, giving us a second position and we are still second overall place with 41 points, 1 ahead of Riverside but 4 behind Hunts AC. Today's senior score was 523, which put us in first position with Nene Valley Harriers (NVH) and Riverside in joint second place today. The overall results are NVH first with 47 points, C & C second with 45 points and Hunts AC in third with 43 points. Full results to follow.
Once again, thank you and well done to everyone who ran today because these results are very good and it was lovely to see so many junior and senior runners. The next race is hosted by March AC on Sunday 12th January. I hope you all have a great Christmas and New Year and lets aim to win the next three fixtures!

NVH 10
A cold, sunny morning outing at Bretton on Sunday produced some happy results for C&C. It was slightly twisty 2-lap course, mostly urban tarmac, punctuated with a bit of woodland, but pretty quick for anyone interested in PB-chasing. The general lack of smiliness from sparse crowds didn't seem to hinder our bunch. A stonking 53-dead for Sullivan won him a 2nd place, followed by a fantastic sub-59 for Graeme Kennedy, and 1:03 for David Barber. Nicky McBride and I came away with 4th and 5th place and age category wins; there were fine runs from Ben C, Stewart and Kevin; and Glyn was over the moon with his run, keeping up the usual good form! Adam bravely made it to the finish despite turning over his ankle at mile 9. Silvia, Victoria and Mary J all finished strongly, and contributed to a grand team effort over the year which we think has secured us the women's team top spot in the Cambs AA road league (someone more official than me will hopefully confirm please?!)

2014 Fixtures
Were lost (my fault) and can't be resurrected.
Bug now discovered (I hope), so please feel free to add (again) fixtures (and "I'm interested"s) for 2014. Will be instating a limited backup regime! Thanks for everyone's help, and sorry to those who painstakingly created 2014 in the first place.
