Smith dismantles Cambridge parkrun course record on parkrun debut
C&C speedster Sullivan Smith blitzed the local parkrun this morning on his parkrun debut, and smashed the previous course record by 10 seconds to finish 1st in 15:36. Perhaps we'll see Sullivan back to chip away at the course record in future weeks after being bitten by the parkrun bug? Brilliant stuff! A storming run by Oliver Park (or was that Duncan Coombs?) for 2nd in 16:31, and for Diana Chalmers finishing 1st lady in 18:52. Many congratulations to Sullivan, Oliver/Duncan and Diana, and to all of the C&C runners who competed.

Benvenuto's birthday
Any C and C members most welcome to join the celebrations at the Corner House pub Newmarket Rd on Wednesday 4th April. I will be 44 on 4/4 which sounds like a good excuse for a party to me. 7.30 onwards.

Lode Muddy Marvel
After a very long wait for the results, Paul Nelson is well worth a mention for winning the Lode Muddy Marvel on the 18th March, making it 3 firsts for C&C members that day with Jonathan and Ben!

CLUB NIGHT Tuesday 27th March after training
Hi All, just a reminder its club night at the track after training on Tuesday from around 8:15/30PM upstairs in the club house. There will be a bar serving hot, soft and alcoholic beverages and there will be yummy homemade sandwiches and cakes available, all at an extremely reasonable cost!! Please do join us, even if just for half an hour. The endurance committee want to cement this as a regular chance to get to know fellow members, to share training experiences and also as an opportunity to learn about upcoming events we want to enter as a club!! Look forward to seeing you there.....

Thorney 10K
A huge congratulations to a lonesome but rather awesome representation at the Thorney 10K in the shape (in shape being the operative phrase!) of Katie Sherwood!! A PB, sub 40 and 1st lady performance... it doesn't get any better than that, well done Ms Sherwood, keep it going!!!

South of England Road Relay (12 stage)
A fantastic performance in the highly competitive SEAA Road Relay Championships in Milton Keynes today, meant the men's team clinched a place in the National finals for the first time in many years. A really inspiring event on a glorious spring day. A full report will follow!

Fleet Half Marathon - 25th March
Did anybody else make it down to the offical pre London half today? Was keeping my eyes peeled for C&C vests but didn't spot any. Fantastic support all around the course from the locals, gorgeous weather, traffic free course and a strong racing field made for a highly enjoyable and very recommendable race. Will certainly be coming back next year! 1:21:42 and 85/2200 for a half marathon debut? Not quite Jon E-P territory but I don't think it was too shabby! Looking forward to coming back and representing the club this easter :)

Ashdon Trail 10
I've been asked by Jordan Kennard to mention a new local race his brother Seth is organising at Ashdon (which is between Safron Walden and Linton), and it does sound like a cracker. The Ashdon Trail 10 will be run over scenic, hilly countryside on Easter Monday, the 9th April. Along with the 10-miler, there will be a 3km option aimed at under-16s, and the proceeds will go to local charities. You'll probably know that the Kennards have bags of experience of racing (rather fast) in C&C colours, so you can be sure it'll be a good one to do.

Frostbite Presentation
We're off to the Frostbite presentation evening on Saturday 24th March to fill our bellies with hog roast, scoop a beer or two and come home with some well earned booty. If any of you C&Cers are at a loose end this weekend and fancy a road trip into the fens, leave a message here or contact me ASAP.

Rhayader Round the Lakes 20 Miles
Dave Mail took himself off to Wales for his annual 20 miles race and came away with mixed results, not reaching the perfect day of last year and having a poor 2nd half of the race but still recording his 2nd fastest time on this demanding course.

Baldock Beast Half Marathon
Not a bad debut half marathon at the Baldock Beast from Jonathan!
1:17 plus the win on a hilly course.
Congrats.

Hurden 9
Well done Ben Baldelli on a cracking win at the undulating Hurden 9, at Offord, near St Neots, clocking an amazing sub-50 time. Well done too to Daniel Hurst (2:10 on C&C debut) and Steve Falgate (2:28) in the 18-mile event.

XC News
C & C took the title of Most Improved Club of the Season at the Ryston GP 2011-12. We also took second, to City of Norwich, in the Visiting Clubs Competition. Second position has been held by St. Edmunds Pacers for the past three years. 7 members of C & C were winners in the overall series competition.

These results, those of the English Schools, Inter Counties and other Championships can be found here.

Many thanks go to all those that made their way to the Ryston GP and the Championships to raise the profile of XC within C & C.

There's still one race left on the calendar - the British Masters XC Championships in Bath on Sunday 25th March. At present C & C have three representatives. Entries close Tuesday 20th March. Details here.

Any Duathetes out there?
Still places available for the Bury St Edmunds Duathlon next Sunday, the 25th if anyone is interested. It's 4.4km RUN - 21.8km BIKE - 4.4km RUN, so well within the capabilities of even a beginner(me).

Wimpole 10k Fun Run
On 20th May 2012, hoohaah have organised a 10k event at Wimpole Estate. They are the same people that organise the Bourn to Run 10k. Although billed as a fun run, it is set up by runners for runners with chip-timing. The course is both road and trail around this fantastic estate with beautiful views across Cambridgeshire. Looks like this could be a great addition to anyones spring calendar. Take a look at http://www.hoohaah.co.uk/wimpole-10k-fun-run-may-20th/ for more details

Anyone else get the Bleeding Nipples book?
Just wondering if there was anyone else who got the Bleeding Nipples book by Rocco Giordano in their 'goodie' bag after the Cambridge Half?

CU H&H Roman Road Race
I'm planning on running in the Roman Road race this Saturday, and the organisers would like an estimate of numbers from C&C, as there is at least one bus leaving the club at 12:30pm. For those of you who don't know the Roman Road, it follows the chalk ridge from just SE of Horseheath to Wort's Causeway just NE of Wandlebury CP, and is one of the hidden gems of the surrounding countryside. And apart from the fact that running 9.5 miles hard on hills is good training, what better way to spend an afternoon than with fellow foot soldiers from the University. So if you're interested let me know ASAP.

Cambridge HM
Congrats to everyone running from C and C. Quick search of the interweb threw up this video http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Home/Video-News/Cambridge-Half-Marathon-draws-in-the-crowds-11032012.htm with a few c&c faces running by. Get your 5 minutes of fame here...

Ryston Runners XC, 18 March
Anyone who fancies a quick blast through the woods at Shouldham Warren on Sunday morning, please post here, email me, see me at parkrun on Saturday, send me a message on Facebook, by pigeon post, on a piece paper wrapped round a half-brick and lobbed through my window... Maybe not the last one. I'm not going to be at training on Tuesday owing to work commitments. Alternatively, contact Helen Grant, our cross-country generalissima.

It's the final Ryston Cross Country Grand Prix on Sunday and I'll be heading up there from Wilberforce Road at about 9:15am. Details are here. They're holding the prize-giving in the village after the races so we'll be staying for that. I have enjoyed taking part in this series over the winter and can recommend it to anyone who yearns for a bit of up-and-down and mud.

CAMBRIDGE HALF
Thank you to all C and C marshals..you were superb..and to our runners who did Cambridge proud! When I started fighting for this event years ago it seemed all the odds were against us. Neil C and the club as a whole were instrumental in persuading the council to let it happen. This is your event!

Cambridge half thank you
I would like to say a special and huge thank you to all the marshals on the half marathon course today, especially all the C & C marshals, who did an outstanding job of cheering the runners on! It made running the race so much more pleasurable/enjoyable, if of course running a half marathon can be called that!

CAU Inter-Counties XC Championships - Saturday 10th March
Good luck to all those that will be representing Cambridgeshire at the Inter-Counties XC Championships at Cofton Park, B'ham this weekend. Almost half of the 77 confirmed as running are members of C & C AC, not forgetting others that had been selected but are not available to run. That's a tremendous achievement for the club and thanks should go to the coaches, parents and families who have supported these athletes throughout the season. For those of you not familiar with this event - it's fastest one. Everyone starting would have finished in the top positions in their age group in their county championships.

Ekiden Relay - 15th July 2012
I would like to know if there is any interest for this great event in Suffolk, hosted by Ipswich Jaffas? Its a marathon broken into 6 stages of between 5k and 10K looping on the same course, making it a great spectator/supporters event too. This is championed by Dave Edwards and I believe John Oakes and Al has also ran it in his previous life as a Coventry Sphinx-er! There are lots of team prizes, I think we could run away with a few (ladies????) and Dave is also keen to try and get a 50+ super vets team together. Its £36 per team, so assuming we can't get funding, this seems to be great value per person! So, lets stamp our authority yet again as a force to be reckoned with prior to Hereward and RNR! If you are interested please email me at cazwrightuk@yahoo.co.uk and I'll co-ordinate.
More info here: http://events.ipswichjaffa.org.uk/ekiden-relays/
Cheers!!! Caz

Cambridge Boundary Run
Whilst we await news of the results from The Boundary Run I would just like to thank the CUH&H for putting on the event. It now holds the record for not only being the cheapest, most relaxed marathon going but also the one providing the best post-race refuel table. It was a great race with weather that gradually got wetter and better throughout. The mud was gloriously slippy and sticky and the kissing gates were wonderfully wearing. Mildly disappointed not to see any students crying in the bushes on the latter stages - but, I guess you can't have everything! I have added the full marathon results, but the half results won't be available till the weekend....

Wymondham 20
Tracey, Deb and Hazel braved the cold, wind and rain to complete the Wymondham 20 on Sunday 4 March. Great results all round with Tracey completing as first female finisher. PBs for Deb and Hazel and 2nd female vets team. Results are here:

The final Frosty
Absolutely stirling job again by the C&C gang at the final Frostbite today! Weather was truly miserable but it didn't keep people away. I will wait for the 'official' results to be published to confirm positions and whether we have won.....but for now...Sul led the entire pack of runners to the finish line, closely followed by Kye. Apologies for not mentioning everyone, there was such a flurry of blue & white vests in quick succession that I could hardly keep up (the likes of Jonathan EP, John Uff, John Oakes, Ben B, Neil C, Mark, Salty, Chris H, Ben Jones, Charlie R, John Morley, Rich...list was endless) and somewhere amongst all that Maddie, Morag, Lisa, Ali and Jen gave the other gals a run for their money. Not to forget the juniors who also secured another great result. The gang certainly did Mark proud! What a finale eh?!
