Cross Country
A race report and results for the South of England Cross Country Championships can be found here. Some of the women's and girls results are still to be confirmed.
If you missed out on this great event at "Stamina Park" and want to get in the on the action there's lots of opportunities to run off road this month - Frostbite (8K), Ryston GP (9K) and for the once the Sunday League is within striking distance at Royston Heath, Herts. (4-5mi). All provide excellent preparation for the English Cross Country Championships held at Parliament Hill, N. London on the last weekend of the month. League details here.
Anyone over the tender age of 34 may want to check out the British Masters Cross Country Championships at University of Bath on Sunday 25th March. There may be no young whippersnappers to get in your way but the pace at the sharp end will still be fast. Details here.

Midlands Cross Country Championships
A great result for Lucy Dowsett now based at Birmingham University. She finished 10th in the senior women event. For more details see Results page.

South of England AA XC Championships
Wow, what a course. Simply nothing like this at any course in our area. With the women fighting it out over the 8km course and the men 15km with hills that would make you weak at the knees (+1,400ft of elevation for the men), the event has been renamed Stamina park and all those who took park will understand why. Some of the womens results are still being processed but here they are so far. Well done to all who took part. Photos to follow shortly!

Roadworks
No, not the name of a new running store, but prior warning to all Frostbiters that this weekend sees the A14 Westbound closed between J24 and J23.

Marrakech Half Marathon
News hot off the press from Marrakech, Morocco. Sunday the 29th of January saw the 23rd running of the Marrakech Half Marathon and a trio of Cambridge & Coleridge athletes made the trip over and turned out some incredible performances. First home for the white and blues was Sullivan Smith, in an eye-watering time of 1:09:16, earning 33rd place in a stellar field. Duncan Coombs followed suit with a truly sterling performance, running 1:12:54 for 80th place. Not to be out-done Anke Linssen also had a fantastic run, coming home in 1:26:26 for 14th place. Pretty spectacular stuff!

Folksworth 15
The Folksworth 15 is the traditional start of the long-distance season in these parts, and a good way to see if you survived Christmas intact. Our female endurance squad certainly did, taking three of the top eight places on a cruelly windy day, and on a horribly-familiarly hill-studded route. Katie Sherwood led the way, with fourth place in a big PB of 1:43, but Caz Pritchard and Tracey Patmore weren't far behind, clocking 1:46 for seventh and eighth. There were PBs for Dave Yeneralski and Jen Richardson too - anyone else? The prolonged self-punishment tour continues at Stamford in three weeks.
Neil Carrington's brilliant pics and commentary are up in the gallery.

Marathon Schedule
A few people have asked about a training schedule for the Spring marathons. I've attached one to the road running group page of the main web site. Link. There are lots of ways to train for marathons. This is one which has worked for me and people I've coached - have a look to see if you fancy it. The training sessions on Tuesdays and (sometimes) Thursdays should be broadly compatible with it. If you have a go, I'll be interested to hear how you get on.

Frostbite League - March AC
Results from the, um, January March Frostbite are now up - thanks to whoever did that (again). Once again we won both the senior and junior contests - hopefully someone can post a nice report? Anyway, from the stats, Sullivan Smith was again outstanding, finishing second by just six seconds, with Al Pritchard, Jonathan EP and John Oakes all going top-20. Amongst the women, Katie Sherwood was third, with Caz Pritchard sixth.
There was a huge team in the juniors, surely the best turnout ever, including many new runners. Top of the pile were male and female race winners Tim Cobden and Charlotte Murphy, with Diana and Amy Chalmers taking the other girls' podium spots and Kieran Wood and Dan Cade fourth and fifth boys.

Cross Country Results
A busy and successful weekend for C & C with the Frostbite, Ryston GP & Hertfordshire Sunday League all hosting their fourth event of the season on Sunday. Race reports for all three events & links to the results can be found here. The cumulative results for the Frostbite & Ryston GP will be added to this link as soon as practicable.
Good news for next month - there are no clashes - so you can run them all! Hills, hills and more hills! It's all good fun and very good training.

Next Frostbite race...
Well its almost time for the 4th race in the series, this time its March AC's turn to host this new course.
The race is run from just outside Whitemoor Prison, the date is Sunday the 15th January, times are 10.15 for the juniors and 11.00am for the senior race.
Further details and directions below, postcode for the race is PE15 0PR. The venue is just outside March. I suggest a good chance to car share, so post on here if you can offer a lift or require transport.
We are currently leading the series and we need a strong turnout to continue our push for the league title. As always the race is free, just turn up wearing your C&C vest. By the looks of the course its an all off road affair. Look out for my usual PDF with all details.

London Marathon Bus
Happy New Year to you all.
A reminder to all about the London Marathon Bus which i am organising for runners and spectators. This give runners a stress free travel to the start line and an opportunity for spectators to watch and soak up the atmosphere.
All runners will be dropped off at Black Heath at appox 7:30am then spectators will be dropped off near tower bridge.
Everyone will then meet at the Walk about pub on the embankment and be picked up at 4:30 to head back home.
The cost is £15 per person and we already have 15 people with a reserved place. It is on a first come first served basis but get in quick as the seats are filling up.
Could you please let me have cheques for the bus either at the track on Tuesday's or drop me an email and i will give you my address - tpatmore@camre.ac.uk.
This year there is a fantastic line up of female elite runners so should be a good year to spectate.

Grand Prix 2011
Following the final Grand Prix race of the year at Ely, congratulations to the 2011 champion, Maddy Boardman, whose five wins in a best-four-results format pipped Kye Liddle's four wins in a tiebreaker, with Giacomo Capetti also on the podium. Maddy joins past champs Karin Jordansen, Mike Salt and Caz Pritchard on the roll of honour.
In the age-graded standings, no-one will be surprised to hear that John Oakes took the honours again, his best four races averaging a whacking 88.05%. Giulio Cinque's outstanding 2011 put him in second, just ahead of Giacomo. It's John's second title, other past winners being Simon Bowen and Bob Watson.

Wymondham New Year's Eve 10K
Our annual all-too-fleeting trip to the top of the C&C 10K rankings - it's the New Year's Day 10K at Wymondham. Carmel had to fight off Deb to be quickest female of 2012 with 48:31, but I stand alone with a 46:06. Go on then - beat that!

Ely New Year's Eve 10K
Almost every C&C member seems to have turned out at Ely for the traditional end-of-year burn-up, and there were plenty of fine results to round off 2011. Quickest of all was Kye Liddle in 34:22 and ninth place, but Jonathan Escalante-Phillips wasn't far behind in a brilliant PB 35:11 for 14th place, just holding off Al Pritchard (35:42 and 18th). However, the only silverware went to John Oakes, the customary V50 prize won in 36:45. Next C&C chap was Paul Makowski, clocking a fine PB of 37:23.
In the women's race, our star performer was Katie Sherwood, seventh in 40:02, with Caz Pritchard (12th in 42:31) and the battle between PB-ing Diane Potter and Karin Jordansen (24th and 25th in 44:20-odd) next.
Other category podium positions were taken by Giulio Cinque, with a (probable) PB for third V50, Karin Jordansen with second V40 and Diana Braverman, second V60. A PB too for Chris Hurcomb (47:47) - any others?
Superb work, team. More in 2012, please!
