December 2011

Albert parkrun
Go half-way round the world to join a small field at a brand-new parkrun and what's the first sight to greet us? Cambridge Tri Club, of course! Christmas Eve fun for Poms and returning Aussies at the Albert parkrun in Melbourne.

Buntingford 10
There were a couple of stand out performances at the hilly Buntingford 10 earlier in the week that I think are worthy of mention. Both Benvenuto Baldelli and Victoria Knight had excellent runs on a challenging course, Ben placed 3rd in 56:51 and Vicky finishing 2nd female in an equally impressive 1:01:21. Well done to those two and the other C&C runners who took part.

2011
Nearly the end of 2011 and we just wanted to say what a cracking year it’s been. Just to follow on from Noel’s email yesterday thanks to EVERYONE for making the club what it is! We have had some amazing individual successes as well as some fantastic team performances. We have continued to have a great presence at local (and not so local) races across a range of distances, parkrun, Frostbite, Hereward, Round Norfolk Relay...to name a few. We can continue to enjoy all of these fixtures in 2012, as well as another round of an improved Kevin Henry league, XC fun, road relays....plus much more!

The Christmas party was a great way to round off 2011 thanks to all those that came along and to those that supported the raffle - £162.50 was raised for the charity EACH. Hope everyone has a great Christmas and all the best to those racing over the next few weeks!

Xmas Eve Cambridge ParkRun tomorrow
Right, here's the challenge: Who will be the fastest man in a dress on Saturday? Who's man (in a dress) enough to take the challenge on?! Al, I know you are a big girl, but have you got the bottle?!

National Cross Country Championships
Last call for entries to this event held at Parliament Hill, N. London on Saturday 25th February. This is an All Comer event. Your opportunity to see many of the best athletes in the country in action. At the moment we have 33 juniors and 15 seniors planning to run but no representatives from the U20 women and U20 men age groups. If you would like to be part of this National event please submit your entry request form by email ASAP. More details here.

Note: Parking is limited. There will not be a club bus. The recommended route is to take the train or park at Walthamstow Railway Station and take the London Overground to Gospel Oak Station - a few minutes walk from the start.

I would like to submit the final list of entries before Christmas.
Thanks.

London Marathon
Hi All

Now that the club places have been allocated and everyone who is in London 2012 should no they are in i thought it a good time to let people know that a London bus is going to be organised. This is a good opportunity for runners to get to Blachk Heath stress free and spectators to get also travel in comfort and suport family and club members.
This is going to be offered on a first come first serve basis at a cost of £15 per person. This is open to runners as well as spectators and i will be collecting the money from people after the Xmas break.
There will be more information to follow. I am at the track on Tuesday's or you could email me at tpatmore@camre.ac.uk if you want more information.

Regards

Tracey

New Year's Eve
I see from the Parkrun website that there will be no usual 5K run that day to avoid a clash with another local event. If you've entered the Ely New's Year Eve 10K and now can't run consider letting the organisers know as there's a waiting list of runners who didn't sign up in time. It would be a shame for them to miss out now there's no Parkrun alternative.

Boxing Day 4
Whilst everybody is feeling exhilirated by the Hinchingbrooke Frostbite, here's another event to look forward to if you're around on Boxing Day. It's a traditional C&C event; just turn up, guests welcome. Survival is often the name of the game. 11.00 am at the Barton Road end of Fen Causway. Noel will be giving out numbers from about 10.40. The race record is a bit special - set by Will Clarke - if you're interested in running hard. I won't be there for the first time in about 20 years so that gives most people a bit of a chance :-)

C&C romp to victory at Hinchingbrooke!
Another awesome performance by the blue and whites at Hunts AC this morning. Once again the juniors raced to victory with the first 5 places! Including Charlotte Murphy taking an impressive 5th place and 12 C&C juniors in the top 20, a bright future for the club, again a large slice of praise to Mark Vile for nuturing such talent! This lead nicely onto the seniors and for once it was the boys steeling the show with all 7 counters inside the top 16! Of course the girls never let us down and we scored a total of 328 points which could be our best performance to date, so well done to all that ran today, what a great achievement. Very strong performances from all the team today! Roll on the 15th January. Full results now online. http://www.frostbiteleague.org.uk/

Cross Country
There are four opportunities for running/racing off road during the next 10 days. Check out the C & C cross country webpages for events, results and overall positions within the leagues. One of the most hotly contested competitions maybe between Simon Brightwell, Peter Haynes & Paul Nelson in the final stage of Tour de Gogs. All three are within 0.5% WAVA age grade of each other after two events. Even if you don't want to attempt a re-run of this "Mountain Stage" it should be fun to watch. Consider volunteering your time to make sure those that do stay on course. If you like running in forests consider the Ryston Grand Prix 6.5K the following day.

Autumn Marathon Abroad
Suggestions please for an overseas marathon in Autumn 2012. We are thinking about an officially unofficial club trip. Unfortunately, Berlin has closed already but Amsterdam might be a good alternative. Venice is also a possibility. I'm not sure that Scotland counts as overseas - yet - but Loch Ness is a popular race and Inverness is further from Cambridge than Amsterdam.

We would like to have a common goal race at the tail end of the year and have group training sessions. As I said, suggestions please.

Nene Valley 10
A big shout out for Katie S who did it again on NVH territory this time! A 4th place in a very high quality field and an awesome time to boot! A very good result for Glyn too.... well done both!

More Cambridge parkrun #95
I was playing around with the results from Saturday's parkrun and noticed that Mary Holmes easily topped the age gradings this week. She ran a parkrun PB of 27:57 for an age grading of 86.76%. Frankly, I'm in awe. Well done, Mary.

Cambridge parkrun's Fastest Couple
Nice to see Caz and Al get "Fastest Couple" award in today's parkrun and to see C&C fill six of the top ten positions. Well done, everyone.

Frostbite Race 3
Ok, so its almost time to don the C&C vest for possibly its last outing of 2011, the Frostbite league rolls into Huntingdon on Sunday the 11th of December at Hitchingbrooke Park. This is one of the better races as its a good mix of surfaces and has that 'proper' cross country feel to it.
As usual I've made up a PDF with all the information you need. C&C are currently league leaders in both the juniors and the senior events. A good strong turnout will help us stay top of the league!
The club needs each and everyone of you to run, lets get a big 'festive' turn out here!

See you in tinsel, santa hats and christmas attire! Club captains will be accessorising :-)
