Girton 5K
C&C featured strongly again at the Girton 5K on Thursday night. Top C&C honours went to Maddy Boardman (second place in 19:20) and Al Pritchard (first C&C and fifth overall in 17:26), but there were plenty of other fine runs - John Uff, Andrew Whittle and Mark Crook all went well under 20 minutes, and in-form Helen Grant clocked another quick time for fifth place and won the V45s. Not far behind, other category top-threes were earned by Helen Buxton (third V40) and Pauline Blake (second V55). For a full run-down, check out the results page. Well done to all of us, and well done to our Muddy Mucky Munkeys chums for putting the race on on home territory.

British 10K
Very late news from the British 10K in London - Istvan Jacso's 37:43 took him to 52nd place in a huge field with a strong elite representation - well done Istvan! If any other C&Cs were there - let me know, as results aren't listed by club.

Peterborough 5K Grand Prix - Stamford
Well done Carmel McEniery - first V35 at the Stamford leg of the Peterborough Grand Prix. Looking good for the series!

New endurance committee
All road runners should have received an email from me (see below) about the new endurance committee. Please help if you can.
The club has seen a big increase in endurance running over the last five or six years and we are keen to make sure that the needs of endurance runners are represented as well as they can be. We think it's important that representation is open to anyone and that different views can be expressed. To do this, we now need a slightly more formal structure and we're proposing a new endurance committee.
The new committee is intended to be as informal as possible and certainly not to be a chore or hugely demanding. To make it work, it needs endurance athletes to volunteer to be part of it. It's likely to involve a meeting, probably over a drink or snack, every six to eight weeks and then helping out with one or two of the activities which are agreed. If you're interested in being involved in promoting endurance running at the club, or have ideas for things we might do, please put your name forward, or if you think someone else would be good at it, please ask them, and then put their name forward.
Nominations for yourself or someone else should be sent to info@cambridgeandcoleridge.org,uk please, by 17.00 on Sunday 31st July. If there is more interest than places available, we'll arrange an election and I'll send details of that if it proves necessary.
Don't be shy! Please help to make endurance running at the club as good as it can be.

Fairlands Valley Challenge
A gallant squad of four took on the varying options of the off-road Fairlands Valley Challenge - hats off to Helen Buxton in the 50km ultra, Kim Masson (third place) in the marathon and Andy Allsopp and Jo O'Regan in the 12.3-miler.

St Ives 10K
The Dairy Crest St Ives 10K is one of our key events of the season, and it's particularly pleasing when we do great things there, so many congratulations to Madeline Boardman (39:50) for a magnificent victory. That's not all though, because we won three other categories; congratulations Charlie Wartnaby (first vet and second overall in 34:33), Giacomo Capetti (first V45) and Giulio Cinque (another first V50 - John O has some competition!). Fine performances all round, including a third V60 for in-form coach Alan Baldock. Great running, team.

Call for Volunteers
C&C speedster and sports scientist Noel Carroll is looking for male runners (with a recent sub-45 10K) for his study of the relationships between running economy, foot strike, and stretch shortening cycle, and it's your chance to get a battery of expensive physiological tests done for free, as well as helping Noel out. Sounds like an excellent opportunity, so click on 'read more' if you think you might be interested...
Hi All,
Some time ago in the winter I was starting the very early stages of getting my MSc dissertation proposal through ethics and needed an idea of who could help out with testing. Well, bad news for us all, ethics gave me the green light and its going live from next week.
Here is what I need.
Male 10km runners
Sub 45min 10km time in an approved race in the past 6 months
Have not raced in the week prior to the testing day.
Testing will be on MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS starting 20th July at Middlesex University,
School of Health and Social Sciences,
The Burroughs,
NW4 4BT
This is easily reachable by car and tube.
This form of testing can cost hundreds of pounds if done privately. You get it for free. It is not to exhaustion, but it will push you over 4x4minute intervals. There is a short rest period between each 4 minute interval.
I can be flexible with testing times and would encourage you if possible to car share with others from you club where ever possible.
Below are the official instructions that cover everything in far greater detail. I would ask you to carefully read them and then let me know if you are still interested.
Please do get back in touch with me if you have any queries and I am certain we can sort them out easily.
Best wishes
Noel Carroll

The very good news is that the brand new Cambridge Half Marathon has just been launched. The first race will be on Sunday 11th March 2012, and you can register for updates by following this link. Well done Ben and everyone else involved in getting this going. Put it in your diaries!

Great Bentley Friday 5
The usual stalwarts finished of the Friday 5 series at Great Bentley on a windy night, me, Dave Edwards and Paul Dewison. Dave had a great run, a few seconds short of his PB only a week after his epic coast to coast adventure and with Paul also finishing well up in his age category in the series. I did quite well myself, getting around in a new PB of 27:42 and also bagging 1st M50.

Newmarket 10k
Just a quick one so I don't push the important RNR item down too far, but we clocked no less than 5 category prizes in the Newmarket 10k yesterday. Cracking!
