C&C Boxing Day Race
The race was over a modified course due to ice on the pavements in Trumpington St alongside the Leys School and also on the final stretch to the war memorial at Trumpington, but it worked out at 3.96 miles according to two GPS measurements.
It was close race this year between Ed Aston, Will Mycroft, Noel Carroll and John Baslington, with Ed finally winning the race trophy by just 10 seconds from the other three.
There were 42 entries this year, marginally down on last year, but still a good turnout considering the conditions.
Lucy Parker (aged 12) in 24th place was the youngest female finisher and Thomas Blatch (aged 13), in 13th place was the youngest male finisher.
First Female was Hollie Parker (just turned 14) in overall 9th position, and our Club President Mary Holmes also braved the cold and finished 37th.
Thank you to everyone who turned out to run or help, and especially Ginny Costello, who walked all the way up to Trumpington to act as the turn marshall at Winchcombe Drive.

Cambridge Boundary Run
I've just received the note below from Robin Brown who is responsible for the boundary run this year. I'll circulate the full note and entry form via the mailing list. If you're not on the list and want to enter, please send an email to info@cambridgeandcoleridge.org.uk and I'll send you an entry form - then join the list!
This is just a quick note to announce that entries are now open for the Cambridge Boundary Run 2011, which will take place at 10.00am on Sunday 27th February. The race is a half- or full marathon around the city of Cambridge that takes in some of the spectacular local scenery. I am keen to welcome as many local club members as possible, especially in view of the excellent ties between our clubs through the GCAN.
We will also be awarding prizes to the top men's and ladies' teams – based on the cumulative times of one runner completing the full marathon and two running the half. Additionally, we award cash prizes for any runner who sets a new course record. The existing course records are:
Men: 1:11:19 (half) and 2:45:35 (full);
Ladies: 1:26:54 (half) and 3:16:46 (full)
Please find attached the entry form which can be returned to Robin Brown (Boundary Run entries), Jesus College, Jesus Lane, Cambridge, CB5 8BL together with a cheque made payable to 'CUH&H.' The advance entry fee remains £7.
We will provide buses from the finish of the half marathon to the race start, T-shirts to early entrants, comprehensive refreshments en route and this year for the first time we are accepting online payments - to take up this option, the digital entry form should be returned to me at rbb29@cam.ac.uk, and payment made to:
Account number: 45152218
Sort code: 07-01-16
Please remember to include the name in the payment reference or we cannot guarantee that the entry will be processed!
I look forward to welcoming as many local club members as possible to the race and wish you good luck for the coming months.
Best wishes,
Robin
(Race Director)

Training Tuesday 21st December
I'm afraid the track is currently unsafe, and the forecast is for weather likely to make it worse, so training at Wilberforce Road on Tuesday 21st December is cancelled.
We will be holding a session on the fields next to Girton Church and recreation ground for road runners. We'll be running on grass, which is safe, - probably 5 minute intervals with a short recovery jog. There is parking but no changing facilities or toilets.
Directions to the recreation ground are here

Christmas Endurance Training - Reminder
Just a reminder of the training arrangements for Christmas:
Tuesday training at Wilberforce Road is only subject to one closure, on 28th December (but the weather looks dodgy for this Tuesday, the 21st, so keep checking the mailing list - click the link at top left of you haven't already signed up).
Thursday training at Chesterton Sports Centre has already finished for Christmas, and returns on the 6th January. We head back to the track on the 7th April.
Don't forget the annual four-mile C&C Boxing Day Race, which heads out from Newnham Green at 11am. No entry fee, register on the day, and you can bring your grotesquely over-stuffed relatives along for a bit of exercise too.

Bedford Harriers Half
I'm leaving the long stuff for the New Year's resolution, but it's a different story for our brave half dozen at the region's big race of the weekend - the Bedford Harriers Half Marathon. In particularly good nick were Colin Weller (127th of 1640, running 1:27) and Jalanie D'Alessandro, second in her category with 1:36, but Katie Samuelson, Meinou Simmons, Mike Difranco and Deb Carter are also particularly well-prepared for any Christmas excesses.

Cross-Country Round-Up
There were all kinds of mucky ways for us to wave the C&C flag on Sunday. John Kazer and Diana Braverman did so in style in our Sunday League cross-country fixture at Digswell, whilst much success was had at Shouldham Warren for the Ryston Runners cross-country series; Lauren Murphy took third place in the U11s, whilst Charlotte Murphy (first), Ella Bliss (second) and Lucy Parker (fourth) again dominated the U13s for us. There was a good run by Natalia Rehakova in a rather lonely U15 race, and David Pettitt represented us male vets with another spectacular V45 placing - just missing a second consecutive victory.

Christmas Party - the Aftermath
Just a very quick word to say a big thank you to Chris Brown for organising another brilliant C&C Christmas do. Really, really good fun (the bits I remember anyway...)!
•
Frostbite League - Hunts AC
Just to update Adam's report, individual results are up from the Hunts AC Frostbite. We really did have the bare minimum there, but what magnificent performances!
Headline billing to Mike Salt, always superb on the mucky stuff, who was the race winner. Just four seconds from repeating the feat in the women's race was Helen Zenner Branco, and there were top-twenty placings for the three Jo(h)ns; Oakes, Uff and Escalante-Phillips, and a cracking fourth place in the females for Caz Pritchard, the day after her Cambridge parkrun win.
Congratulations to them and the rest of the squad, who ran out of their skins yesterday - thanks all.
In the junior race, it was a similar story, with just the five running but running outstandingly well. Thomas Heylen came second, Claire Wilson was first girl and a brilliant third overall, with Jack Willmott (fifth) and Finn Barnes (tenth) close behind and Maisie Cassidy running well and scoring crucial points too. Well done the juniors.

Frostbite Results
Thank you for everyone who turned up and ran for C & C today in the third Frostbite. I am happy to say that despite depleted teams, we still did very well. The juniors came third with 93 points but still remain in first overall position but only 1 points stands between us and Hunts AC. The seniors scored 500 points and came second today. We therefore remain overall first but only point in front of NVH. Full results to follow.

Guided Busway Tests next week
A quick safety notice to anyone who runs along the guided busway, BAM Nuttall will be running buses along the busway between St Ives and Cambridge next week (according to the press release on Thursday 16th December) so take care while running along or crossing the busway

5k time trial course
I've added the route for the winter 5k time trial course to the Tuesday training details. It's under Tuesday 7th December - the date of the next time trial. I can't be there on the 7th. Hope it goes well.
