County team for the Hibberd trophy
Dear All,
I'm currently organising the county team for the Hibberd trophy, and I'm in need of a male 5k (track) runner.
Please contact me if you fancy a run on the 7th of September at Stevenage.
Look forward to hearing from people. (mikes@ced.co.uk)

Dovedale Dash - payment needed!
Thanks to all those who've already told me they'd like to come on this weekend away for the Dovedale Dash on Sunday 2 November (and stumped up the cash). For more information about this trip, please click on "read more" at the end of this.
According to the YHA's rules, I need to send them full payment for our booking by the end of next week. This means that I cannot guarantee how many beds will be available for us after that. Therefore, if you have already told me you'd like to come, please can you send me a cheque for the full amount by Tuesday 26 August? I should be at training that night or you can post it to me, if you email me for my address (rachel.roberts@yahoo.co.uk).
If you think you would like to come, but aren't yet in a position to confirm, please can you let me know so that I can give the hostel a clearer idea of numbers and persuade them to hold some extra beds open for us?
Many thanks,
Rachel
This year's Dash is on Sunday 2 November at 11.00am. It's short and sharp and the mud's guaranteed, but the views across Dovedale make it well worth the effort! For further information, see http://www.dovedaledash.co.uk/ and the photo gallery on the website - some people are even smiling as they plunge into the river!
We currently have 20 beds reserved for the nights of Friday 31 October and Saturday 1 November at the National Forest Youth Hostel, northeast of Lichfield - http://www.yha.org.uk/find-accommodation/peak-district-sherwood/hostels/national_forest/index.aspx. The facilities at this new hostel look impressive. Accommodation is in 2-4-bedded rooms, all en-suite.
Costs are as follows:
For Saturday night only: £35.45 (1 night's accommodation, dinner on Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday morning)
For Friday and Saturday nights: £61.90 (2 nights' accommodation, 2 breakfasts and dinner on Saturday night)
If you would like to come, please let me know as soon as possible (rachel.roberts@yahoo.co.uk), indicating how many nights you'd like to stay. I need to raise a 25% deposit for the whole booking within the next couple of weeks, so if you're happy to pay the whole amount up-front, that would be really helpful - thanks! Cheques are payable to YHA. Please either give them to me at training or post them to me (I will let you know my address if you need to do this), by Friday 8 August.
Thanks,
Rachel

Wandlebury Cross-Country 5
Belated results are now up from Wandlebury, where Giulio led C&C home in eighth place overall.

Olympic News
Good luck to Will Clarke, who takes on the Olympic triathlon tomorrow morning (Tuesday). Despite having long since switched focus to the Tri Club and the pro circuit, Will remains an active C&C member, and plenty of us will be watching avidly. The race starts at 3am BST.
UPDATE: Will finished fourteenth - quote from the BBC: "I just didn't do it on the swim. I wasn't fast enough so I had to do too much on the bike and that meant I came to the run tired. I have to go back and do lots of work on my swimming."

Thorney 5
Results for the Thorney 5 have been posted. Many of us found it tough going, but not Noel, who added to his trophy collection by finishing second. This was the Cambs five-mile county championship, and Noel is the new champ - congrats, Noel! This was also the third race in the C&C Grand Prix; Noel and Mandy lead the series.

Meinou News
Positive news of Meinou. As you may have heard, she was hit by a car near the American Cemetery last night (Tuesday). I'm happy to report that she was discharged from Addenbrooke's the same evening with a painful collection of cuts bruises and a set of stitches in a head wound. She wants me to pass on her thanks for the support and good wishes from clubmates - I know we all wish her the best with her recovery and hope to see her back running soon.
Also, Adam wants to pass on his thanks to everyone who helped out after the event.

5K League - Haverhill Results
A very good day for C&C at the Haverhill 5K on an excellent new course at Kedington. Our women's team starred, beating Newmarket to win on the night, with Karin leading us home, and now go equal top overall with just the Saffron Walden race to go. The men had their first defeat, but second place to Newmarket still leaves us with a handy lead in the series. First home (and just pipped for first overall) was Noel. All to play for next month. Well done everyone who made it - great to see the team flourishing - and the drenched support crew too (Carmel doesn't usually do rain).

Newmarket 10K
Results finally up from from Newmarket, with Giacomo leading the C&C challenge in eighth place. Apologies for the delay.

Round Norfolk Relay - availabilities wanted
It's getting to that time when we need to get some firm-ish commitments
for the C&C team for the Round Norfolk Relay, which is on Saturday 20th to Sunday 21st September 2008, and the race website is....
http://www.roundnorfolkrelay.com/
This document gives a very approximate schedule, with times loosely based on what we did last time (2003).
If you want to run, could you let me know, and tell me what your preferences are (maximum/minimum length of leg, time of day and so on), including any leg you'd specifically like or any you can't do. Bear in mind that those wishing to run overnight will immediately be my heroes forever.
I'll be at training on Tuesday and at the pub after, so just speak to me then if you prefer.
Note - C&C women are likely to be needed in the C&C/Ely joint team, but the C&C team is open to all. Also note that Chariots of Fire is on the Sunday morning before making commitments to either!

Winter Training at Chesterton
Thursday Road Running training will be at Chesterton Sports Centre from the 25th September.
Neil: "For road runners, Thursday night training will be from Chesterton as in previous years but we cannot meet in the foyer. Please respect this. Chesterton have been very helpful with bookings and we must do as they ask. We can meet outside or at the end of the Sportshall. If we use the Sportshall which is probably the better option, we must not wear dirty shoes. If your trainers are dirty, please take them off before going into the hall."

Wibbly Wobbly Log Jog
