Derbyshire Pics
The first set of pics for you to enjoy from last weekend are in the Derbs 2008 gallery, courtesy of Madhuri. More to come I'm sure!

Second National title this year for Aston
This bank holiday weekend saw a Cambridgeshire county team compete against county teams from across the UK at Bedford international athletics stadium in the County Athletics Union (CAU Intercounties Championship). The weather put pay to any fast times that may have been achieved.
Richard Oppong-Konadu ran in the senior mens 400m, running a below par 50.7 in the heat, and did not qualify for the final. Ian Williamson had better fortunes running in the CAU mile, finishing third to take his second national Bronze of 2008, this time behind two established GB 1500m runners Steve Davis (1st) and James Thie (2nd), both from Wales. Whilst Ed Aston won his third medal and second title of 2008 (to go with his indoor BUSA title) running in the 800m, earning his place in the final as the fastest qualifier and winning the final in a very windy, but respectable 1m53.4, running away from the pack with a devastating kick down the home straight.

Derbyshire 2008
Watch this space for details, but we survived the hills and Becs finished second overall, Meinou fourth, Ben C and Mike S fourth and fifth respectively, and Mary J first FV55. Pics will appear in the Derbs 2008 gallery as and when, and full results are now up.

May Bank Holiday Round-Up
Results are in from two local races. At the Hatfield Broad Oak 10K, Ben and Simon finished at the sharp end, Ben taking 15th out of 1000+ in a hint over 35 minutes. At the Brandon Half, Joad's 12th place led the C&C times and took second Vet 40, while Mike D and Katie SD clocked up yet more quick miles and off-road specialist Diana showed she's in excellent form, finishing second Vet 55.

Edinburgh Marathon
More marathon news, this time from the Edinburgh Marathon, where John F just missed three hours, leading Kim and Simon R and Ron home. Great going, all.

Oxford Town and Gown 10K
A late result from the Oxford Town and Gown 10K, where Noel C took 19th place in 35:20 to go to third in the C&C rankings for 2008.

Windermere Marathon
A marathon double for Ultra Katie - her second marathon in consecutive days was a 4:17 at Windermere. Well done Katie and well done Jennifer too, finishing in four hours flat (give or take a few seconds).

C&C Grand Prix
After much dithering, the C&C Grand Prix is ready to go - see the link at the left. The first race is the 5K league race at Newmarket on the 5th June. Any last-minute comments about changes are still welcome. It's all for fun, and for a bit of intra-club rivalry to sharpen us up. Hopefully it'll be worth doing.

White Peak Marathon
Well done Simon R and Ultra Katie on the Tissington Trail, running 3:28 and 3:42 respectively at the White Peak Marathon. Is there a marathon (or longer) that these two won't run? Most impressive.

Swaledale Marathon - place available
Madhuri is injured and unable to use her Swaledale Marathon place this year, and is looking for someone who can use it (the organisers have a number transfer procedure). The marathon is a 23-mile cross-country event, up hills and down dales, and is suitable for hard-core fell runners and fit walkers alike, and attracts a sizeable bunch of C&C entries. E-mail Madhuri if you're interested.

Halstead & Essex Marathon
A stupidly hot day to run the Halstead Marathon, but three C&C eccentrics didn't let it stop them. Congratulations to Andrew H (sub-4!), Simon R and especially our star performer Mary J, who ran 4:23 to take second place in the Vet 50 category. I can't imagine how tough that was.

Trieste Report
Karin's report from the Trieste Marathon is now up. Thanks Karin!

Eye 10K
Speedy results from the Eye 10K - in terms of publication anyway! Varying degrees of wilting in the heat for the ten C&C runners, but well up the field were Geoff, 14th in a touch over 37, and James E and Mike S, who sprinted it out for 21st place (James won).

John's Op
Just a quick note to say that John L had his op yesterday, and, despite a bit of an uncomfortable night, is doing very well. The docs say no running for 4-6 weeks - I'm betting on sooner!

Beer Festival
The annual C&C gathering at the Cambridge Beer Festival is pencilled in for Wednesday 21st May. Got it?
NOTE! Objections have been raised re a clash with a footy match - watch this space...

Silverstone 10K
In a blatant show of defiance to the course accuracy fairy, Simon R ran his third PB in consecutive days (two official!) at the Silverstone 10K. Ultra Katie was close behind, also in the 43's.

Tour of the Derwent Valley - Friday 23 to Monday 26 May 2008
Twenty of us have now signed up for the trip to Derbyshire at the end of this month, so it promises to be a lively weekend away. (See news items further down the page for full details of this annual trip.)

There are still a few places available:

MALES: You need to let me know by tomorrow (Wednesday), if you'd like to come along. I have to let the hostel know tomorrow if we will need an additional room that they have been holding back for us, otherwise we will lose it. (The male dormitories currently booked are now full.)

FEMALES: There are still 4 places available in the females' dormitory.

If you'd like to come along, please let either Phil or me know (rachel.roberts@yahoo.co.uk or pg101@cam.ac.uk) and we will need a cheque for £91.35, payable to YHA, as soon as possible.

Belfast Marathon
Well done Benvenuto Baldelli, clocking the fastest C&C marathon of the year in Belfast. His 2:53:34 placed him 28th overall in a high-class field.

Trieste Marathon
From disaster to triumph! Well done Karin at the Trieste Marathon, just missing 3:30, but a much better day this time (unless the race report says differently?)! There are photos online too.

Cologne Marathon and Marathon Sunday Runs
This autumn, C&C are trying to get together lots of you for a crack at the Cologne Marathon (or Half). Reports from past racers have been excellent, and it's bound to be a great trip. More details will appear here as and when they're known.

On a related subject, Cole is interested in getting some Sunday runs going for those of us planning autumn marathons (such as Cologne), and wants to gauge interest - if you think you might be up for it, have a word with Cole at training. More information will appear here soon.

Bank Holiday Weekend Round-Up
Lots of racing happening this weekend, and I'll start with a good run by Mary J at the Titchmarsh 10K. Next up, some speedy running at the Breckland 10K, where Geoff took fourth place with a lightning 36:22 and Carol's good form took her to a PB and 11th female in 46:15. Steve and John K were a bit off their usual best, just to balance things out (sorry, chaps!). Across Norfolk, further success at the Great East Anglia Run in King's Lynn, where Mike Salt took tenth place in a very big field, running 34:51, Leon was a superb 48th, Simon R knocked off a PB, and Mike D, Brian and Julie all ran well.
On to Bank Holiday Monday, and Simon R ran his second quick race at the Impington 5K, which would have been another PB had the Course Accuracy Fairy (me) said 'unofficial' (Boo! Get the Course Accuracy Fairy!). Over at the Ashdon 10K+ (actually 10K), Chris P took third place (well done Chris) and Mike D had a nice day :-). In the 3K (actually 2.6km!), Seth Kennard was second (well done Seth too); there may have been more C&C whose names I didn't spot - help appreciated!

Newmarket Heath Run
Looks like the Newmarket website is defunct, so if anyone gets results from the Newmarket Heath Run, please pass them on (or, if brave, have a go at updating....?). First details now in - thanks, James.

Sawston Fun Run
Getting more popular by the year, the Sawston Fun Run attracted lots of C&C, and from the limited results available, I can report several C&C podium places. Chris F was third overall and second in category, John B was second in school years 7-11, Vikki won the F40-54, and Leon and Alex both placed third in their categories.
