November 2007

UK Cross Challenge - Liverpool
Well done Nick B, who travelled up to Liverpool's Sefton Park to take on the nation's best U17s, finishing 80th over the 6km course.

Firenze Marathon
Johann, Ish and Jalanie ran the Firenze Marathon this morning (that's Florence to the less cultured amongst us). Johann and Ish finished virtually together, both a touch outside three hours (superb, but couldn't you have run just a bit faster?) and Jalanie clocked a very impressive 3:26.

Hereward Relay
The big news is that our first women's team won the Hereward Relay today. Congratulations to Katie T, Katie S, Meinou and Kim. A slightly less-muddy-than-usual race with a merciful tailwind for most of us, and my memories of the general awfulness have started to fade already. Full results have been posted, and first pics are up in the photo gallery - more, please!

Cambridge & Coleridge A.C. Annual General Meeting
The C&C AGM will be held tonight, Monday, 26th November, at Wilberforce Road, starting at 8 o'clock. Please do your best to make it.

St Neots Riverside Half Marathon
Special mention should also go to Andy for his performance in this race (since he won't blow his own trumpet!) - a pb by approximately 4 mins and his first half in sub-1-40 - superb running in difficult conditions. Well done, Andy! {edit - *blush* thanks, Rachel! And thanks Coach Neil for the EPO. ;-)}

Sunday League XC - Digswell
Diana and Sue represented us ably at Digswell, both finishing well up the field - well done both.

Hereward Relay Final preparation meeting: - Friday 23 November, Cambridge Blue, Gwydir Street
We have the Hereward Relay this following Sunday, it has been suggested that we have team discussions and talks on tactics etc at the Cambridge Blue.

We can also see what changes the new landlord has made. Suggest team meeting run from 20.00 hrs

All welcome.

St Neots Riverside Half Marathon
Full results are now in from St Neots, where nearly thirty C&Cs finished - great to see so many of us there. Best places in category went to Mary J (3rd V55) and Kim (4th V35), while John F was (again) quickest C&C. Note that times are chip times - official times can be found at the Riverside Website. If you know of any errors or omissions, let me know.

Warning - indecent offences, Wilberforce Road/Queens' Road area
The following e-mail from the Churchill College Head Porter was circulated amongst the Cavendish Lab staff by the Lab Administrative Secretary, regarding a series of indecent offences not too far from the track. Please be careful. I'm assured the problem is genuine, despite having heard by third-hand (at least) e-mail.

Invite from Pietro to run in the Bavisela Marathon and 1/2 Marathon May 2008 (Italy)
Pietro has invited C&C to take part in his home town running event, please have a look at the following link and should you wish to go "get organising"

http://www.bavisela.it/index.php?home-eng
The date is the 4.5.2008, although there are various events during the
previous week as well. It would be great to have you all at home :) Pietro

Bushfield Frostbite
News from the the Bushfield Frostbite: disastrous team results, finishing eleventh of fifteen - by far our worst result of the last few years. Whilst the women scored fairly well, we lacked a bit of the firepower needed to compete with the quickest men. Anyway, fine efforts by first C&Cs John F and Kim, and some other excellent individual times. In the junior race, all C&C runners placed well, led in by James C, but again we were one short of the five required, and finished sixth overall. Great running by the C&C juniors anyway. Full results are now up, with some inaccuracies in the times.

Dovedale Dash pics
Thanks to Tim for the first of the Dovedale Dash photos. They're at the gallery page, where you can upload your own (please!), or just get them to me somehow and I'll do it. Update: more up from Dave Y - ta, Dave!

Bushfield Frostbite
Glyn suggests that those wanting to share lifts to the Bushfield Frostbite this Sunday should meet at Wilberforce Road at 9:00a.m.

As ever, it would be great to get a decent turnout to keep us in the hunt for overall glory this season, so please make the effort to run if you can - your club and your clubmates really do need you. Juniors too - if you're a parent of a junior member, bring them along for the mile-and-a-bit (roughly) event at 10:15.

There has been a change from the usual parking arrangements this year - see the Frostbite League website for full details of the event.

Stevenage Half
Mike D and Adam took to the roads of Stevenage on Sunday - two good times recorded - well done, chaps.

Dovedale Dash
Another year, another Dash, another week to be spent discovering mud in unexpected places. Hopefully full details and photos will follow, but the upshot is that much fun and merriment was had, and the race (a 'dry' Dash) was OK too. Mike S led us home, and only one ambulance ride* was needed before all seventeen runners were accounted for on Thorpe Pasture. They don't publish a full set of results, but please add your placings and/or times to the database (thanks to everyone who has already done so), or mail me with them. Pics also welcome - use the gallery page to upload, or get them to me and I'll do it.
*Carmel's knees are gruesome to behold, but the prognosis is good.
