European Junior Championships
Ed Aston represented Great Britain at the European Junior Championships in Hengelo, Netherlands, last Friday. Sadly, Ed missed out on qualifying for the 800m semis by a hundredth of a second in a very tactical heat, having led at 600m.

Club Social Friday 20 July
"Due to the impending weather we are expecting on Friday" the general view is that it should be "PUB" my suggestion is the "Free Press" as it is a central location at 20.00 do you have any other requests.
txt (07976391012) or email me (below)
Does anyone fancy a club social this friday night, open air Shakespeare at Kings college gardens (weather permitting) Much to do about nothing; or pub.
Let me know Ian

Floodlights Application - Please Support!
There's a very important item by Neil in the latest C&C Newsletter about the University's application for floodlights at Wilberforce Road. Your active support is needed NOW - please read on......
PLEASE SUPPORT THE CAMPAIGN FOR FLOODLIGHTS. IT’S IMPORTANT FOR THE CLUB
The University is poised to submit a planning application for floodlights at the track. This is part of a long saga which I’m happy to recount to interested parties if you ask me. There is a high chance we’ll be able to get approval for the new planning application if the planning authority – Cambridge City Council – are persuaded of wide support for it. They already acknowledge its merits and know that it fits in with the strategic documents for the sub-region. The University has carried out a public consultation and it is clear that some non-sporting residents are unhappy about floodlighting though the vast majority of respondents are in favour. The scheme has the support of England Athletics and is important for broader plans for sport in the Cambridge sub-region. I have a paper copy of the consultation documents and, as we go to press, I am trying to get hold of an electronic version. If I’m able to do that, I’ll put it on the club’s web site, www.cambridgeandcoleridge.org.uk. If you would like to see the paper copy, please get in touch with me.
It is now very important that we show the strength of support for the scheme to the city council. It will provide all year round facilities for the city, South Cambridgeshire and some parts of East Cambridgeshire, Essex and Hertfordshire, not just one city ward: Newnham. But Newnham residents (the ward in which the track is sited) have a significant influence over the success of the application. Floodlights would mean that we could carry out specialist training all year round and we are the main beneficiaries. Even though the University sometimes gets a bad press for its civic responsibilities, in this case, whilst students will benefit, it is us – the local residents - who stand to gain by far the most. And the University is proposing to provide the facility at no capital cost to the city (though we will have to pay, quite rightly, for the power we use when the lights are switched on).
The planning submission will be made on or around the 13th July. Please write, at about that time, to the Planning Department at Cambridge City Council, The Guildhall, Cambridge, CB2 3QJ or phone the Policy Research Section on 01223 457200, fax on 01223 457109 or send an email to planning.policyresearch@cambridge.gov.uk. to give your support. Just a short note saying that you think it will be of real benefit is enough, but the more you can support the better. If you are a city resident, it would be helpful if you could copy your letter (preferably with a covering note) to your local councillors.
We will try to keep you up to date via the web site.
Thanks. Neil Costello – Club Chairman

5K League - Cambridge
A foul, wet and windy evening for our home fixture in the 5K league, but a great turnout anyway - well done everyone for rallying to the call, and Glyn for behind-the-scenes rabble-rousing. The women's team turned round a minor disaster last month into glory, taking first place individually (well done, Kim) and as a team, looking like world-beaters. Well, area-beaters anyway. The men were also out in force, winning their event again, led home by Giacomo. We're now top of the overall standings and the men's standings; we're third in the women's, but the gap between the top three is tiny - all to play for at Newmarket next month.
Many thanks to all who helped out and took a drenching heroically - organiser Glyn, starter Barry and marshals Mary, Steve, Mike D, Ron, Helen, Ian and Brian - your efforts were greatly appreciated by all the runners.

Stiffkey Camping weekend 13/14 July
I have booked 3 no pitches for the following weekend, each pitch can have 2 x 2 man tent possibly 3 as the pitch is 8m x8m. this is with the cars not on each pitch but in the car park.
Cost £7.50/pitch +£3.00/adult per night so with the above we can accommodate 10-12 happy campers
I have 4-5 confirmed but will you all please email me to confirm your place and type of tent.
The campsite has a toilet and shower block with a pub in the village a short walk away.
The site is just off the peddars way and the norfolk costal path which is ideal for a run. it is also between Wells and Blakeney.

Sunday Results, 1st July
Results are trickling in - well done Nick, Nigel, Jalanie and Shelley in the last race in the Bedford Sprint Tri series. Nick won his category to take the overall series victory and his run leg was the fourth quickest of anyone - stunning! On the roads; Simon led the C&C challenge at the Newmarket 10K, and Mark C at the EVAC 10K. Finally, well done Giacomo, finishing second in the Sutton Feast Beast 7. On the track, the composite Team Cambridge side was in action at Woodford Green - follow the link for results.
