Kevin Henry 5k race scoring trial
We're planning on holding a 5k time trial on Tuesday 3rd to continue testing out the new scoring system ahead of the league's start on Thursday 12th May. If you'd like to take part, please can you let me know by 5pm Sunday (1/5/11) so I can allocate you a race number. The start time will be around 7pm and will be followed by the monthly pub night at the Red Bull, Barton Road.

Sudbury 5
A lone competitor from C&C lined up with 450 other runners at the Sudbury 5 on Good Friday in very hot weather. In the heat, and with a series of hills to contend with from the half way point, John Oakes managed to ease away from the field to record his second outright win in a race, in a time of 28:14.

Lewes 10k
Right, Katie Sherwood has done it again and continued with her outstanding performances by coming second female in the Lewes 10k race in 41:44 on Easter Sunday. In Katie's own words it was a good time because of running off road and through farms, etc.

London Marathon 2012 Ballot
The ballot for entry into the 2012 Virgin London Marathon is now open. In the past this has filled up in a matter of a few days, so be warned!

Vienna Marathon
Well done Adam Poole on a very impressive 3:25 in the Vienna Marathon.

Virgin London Marathon 2011
The Virgin London Marathon was big, it was loud, it was hot, and it remains by far and away THE event of the year for many. I don't know all the tales of triumph and disaster, elation and pain, delight and disappointment so please add your own stories as comments, or those with admin priveleges edit these words. But at the front were Caz Pritchard once again leading the C&C women home in a speedy 3:32:41; Carmel McEniery brushing off the heat to bag a huge PB next; and a fast-fading Charlie Wartnaby (that's me!) running 2:42:38.
Also a big thank-you to the supporters whose shouts of "Cambridge" and "C&C" in so many places were a great spur to the resolve (Tim, John, Andy, Noel and many more).

Lochaber Marathon
After my outstanding 20 miles race at hilly Rhayader, Wales 3 weeks ago, I took myself off by train to Fort William, Scotland, in search of a fast marathon at the Lochaber Marathon. The trip resulted in mixed fortunes with a marathon PB (including a 20 miles PB by a huge 10 minutes), but an out-and-back course with the return in hot (20/21C) conditions and against a stiff breeze, meant that my main target of sub 3:15 was not attained. In a race consisting 2/3rds of veterans, I received a minor trophy for placing 3rd MV55 out of 21.
Wonderful scenery along Loch Eil (photos here), a friendly well organised marathon with lots of prizes, and well worth running at least once.

Lochaber Marathon
Results are in from Lochaber Marathon, and what a stunner from Dave Mail - 3:20:01 for 57th place. Awesome running, Dave - congratulations!

Edinburgh Half
Despair to joy for Andy Allsopp, who narrowly missed the magic 1:30 at the Edinburgh Half until the organisers realised they'd marked the course too long (by nearly a quarter of a mile) and revised times down pro rata. SO it's a 1:28:49 for Andy, and a quest for a belated celebratory Deuchars in Cambridge.

London Marathon Recovery
Unless otherwise informed, the place to be on Sunday afternoon is the Chandos Pub on St Martin's Lane. C&C have met there after the London Marathon for the last few years, and it's the ideal place to get some restorative beer into those aching limbs and feed your face with pub grub. Supporters, runners and anyone else in the area welcome. Upstairs bar if possible!
The Chandos is just off Trafalgar Square - as you filter away from the repatriation area, you're likely to become aware of Nelson's Column through the haze of pain. St Martin's Lane is on the far side of Trafalgar Square - exit the square to the right of the National Portrait Gallery (which is the enormous building on the far side).
One more tip - arrange to meet loved ones at 'C' (for C&C!) in the repatriation area on Horseguards', and remember that mobile airwaves will be busy. Good luck to everyone running!

Paris Marathon
It was a proper warm one in Paris, so extra congratulations to our representatives at the marathon. I'm looking forward to hearing the stories, but the stats show Dave Yeneralski, Cole Clissold and Katie Sherwood finishing within a minute of each other, bang-on the 3:30 mark. Great running, you lot. Apologies if I've missed anyone out - let me know if so.

Bungay Marathon and Half
A light breeze off the North Sea and some wispy, high cloud just about saved those of us who wilt in the heat, but the hills in the first half at Bungay were unaffected by meteorology. Nevertheless, our team of five ran excellently round the 13.1-mile lap; Alberto Bautista marked his short stay in Cambridge with a 1:26 for an impressive seventeenth place, just one ahead of in-form Mark Crook (1:27). Good running too by Jonas Nilsson (1:35), Chris Hurcomb (a 1:54 official PB) and me (1:48). There was the option of a second lap, but no-one wants to hear about that.

Flitwick 10k
Last weekend John Oakes and I made the trip over to Flitwick (pronounced Flitik I was told) near Ampthill (pronounced Ampt-hill I was also told) for the yearly running of the Flitwick 10k. John had some stiff competition in the form of one his category adversaries, who he had never beaten before. It was a ding dong battle all the way, with John finally prevailing in the end by a good 15 s! John ended up coming home in 10th position in a time of 36:01, and won the MV50 category. I came a more modest 51st, in a time of 39:51. A charming event taking in the undulating country roads to the west of the village, well worth the journey.

C&C Tees
After consulting with you, Al Pritchard has come up with the preferred design for a new C&C technical T-shirt. To see it in full, click this link. As an example, if we can get up an order for 30 male and 30 female in three sizes, we can expect to pay around £12.
Get in touch with Al if you're interested in getting one. Brisk interest so far, but one or two more girls are needed, so don't be shy!

Duplicate Cambourne Medals?
If anyone got an extra Cambridge Cambourne 10K medal in their blue souvenir bag on Sunday, could you please let me know? The system broke down, a few people missed out and we'd like to help them, particularly the first-timers. Let me know a.s.a.p., please.

Maria and Andrea's Marathon charity night
Maria B and Andrea M are running the London Marathon this year and raising cash for Cambridge Family Mediation Service; they have arranged an evening of fun and games (and beer and good company) at the Maypole Pub on Park St from 8 this Saturday. C&C'ers most welcome. Its a fiver per head and should be a good laugh so hope to see you there. Simon

Kevin Henry race number trial
On Saturday there will be a small free Kevin Henry inter-club event of 5 miles at the Gogs starting at 10am. If anyone is interested in taking part, please can you let me know by Thursday 5pm. I will be there to help out and support all C & C runners.

Cambridge Cambourne 10K
Full details are now in, but firstly congratulations to all runners, marshals and helpers at our Cambridge Cambourne 10K. Results are up, and we had a clean sweep of male and female winners in both the 10K and the Fun Run - well done Steven Watterson, Victoria Knight, Finn Barnes and Hattie Algar. We also got all three podium places in the women's race, thanks to Victoria, Maddy Boardman and Caz Pritchard. There were category wins too, for Helen Grant and Joe Tucker, whilst Jalanie D'Alessandro, Andrew Shields, Peter Haynes and Andrea Martinelli went top-three. What's more, Katy Baker-Davis was third girl in the fun run. Superb results all round - well done everyone.
Huge thanks to all who made it possible, in particular to Neil, Julie and Lesley.
KatieS has uploaded some excellent pics - see the gallery.
Maddy's other half's site with a brilliant set of pics is at this link.
